Description
Torchlight. A booming mining town that grew up around unbelievably rich veins of Ember, that rare ore with the power to enchant--or corrupt--everything it touches. It’s a powerful thing, and everyone knows power, well. Power can corrupt, too. You’ll set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember’s influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures that you’ll never be playing the same game twice. A fun, crunchy action-RPG, this one game that oozes style, care, and polish out of every single pixel and is a definite must to pick up if you like RPGs or just having some mindless fun.

  • Over 30 randomized levels! Monsters, treasures, puzzles, and items are also different each time you embark on an adventure.
  • Choose a pet that will level up, fight by your side, and even take items back into town to sell them for you!
  • Includes TorchED for you to make your own Torchlight set dungeons, mods, and much, much more!

Diablo Clone

well it is a very beautiful game, but very much gets its repetitive circles, i dont like Diablo at all, so maybe not me the best person to rate this, but still i like a cartoonish 3D wich appears in this game

Addictive and engaging

I snagged this one when it went free for a short time, but because it was free and not because I knew anything about it. As such, this is the first ARPG I've ever played, and the ARPG against which I now compare all others. (Yes, I know Diablo is supposed to be the standard-bearer.) As an introduction to ARPGs, Torchlight really shines. Controls aren't difficult and there's plenty of tooltips to help you learn the keyboard shortcuts. The upgrade system is intuitive with plenty of popovers that layout everything you need to know. The first levels are just easy enough to encourage further exploration, but just enough difficulty to deliver a sense of accomplishment. The storyline isn't terribly original, but it's serviceable. There are plenty of side quests available, and infinite dungeons to explorer after completing story mode. Plus, having a choice of classes made me want to play through again. Adding to that, you can share weapons and items between your characters, which is a nice feature. I also like the pet, though I mostly use it to take stuff back to town to sell. Graphics aren't earth-shattering, and in fact have a subtle cartoony feel, but that adds to the charm. The music, though repetitive at times, complements the atmosphere without being cloying. Like I mentioned, any ARPG I try now I compare to Torchlight; sometimes it lessens a learning curve ("oh, I get it, it's like doing X in Torchlight"). I've tried a couple others (Titan Quests so far has been my favorite) but I tend to come back to Torchlight again and again.

high replayability value

I just liked it at first, played through the first time as a Destroyer very slowly, but as soon as I understood how the heirloom and retirement worked I played through the game another few times as a Destroyer. Right after I started trying the Vanquisher once I was looking at the time and saw that I beat the 100 hours mark of playing time with just one slightly varied build and several runs and thoughts and tries of making it cleaner. The replayability of this game is insane! If you like a game that has enough character variability to serve just like you want to play it, you will most probably have fun with this. Just remember: It's a hack & slay. And it's a singleplayer. If youre fine with both you're going to love it!

Pretty game marred by poor mechanics

Nice looking and easy on resources, the game resembles the late, lamented NCSOFT mini-mmo, Dungeon Runners, and has a similar humor. Unfortunately, the game is significantly marred by the devs' insistence on having the left mouse button do too many things: click to move, click to interact, click to target. There's a fight with a huge crowd and loot all over the floor. You click in the middle to attack. Which of these results do you actually get? A) You attack one target and then just stand there while the rest beat you to death. B) You move to that spot and just stand there while the rest beat you to death. C) You begin picking up loot off the ground while the rest beat you to death. See the problem? You're advised to hold left mouse whilst fighting to continue attacking, but rarely does it work that way. In addition, it's very difficult to accurately target anything whilst moving or to target anything moving, and absolutely impossible to target anything moving whilst you're moving. You're dependent on spells and potions for health recovery, both of which have lengthy cooldowns. The result is many, many, many frustrating character deaths before you give up on this. The game claims to be the heir to the Diablo series, but those games allowed you to strew an infinite amount of loot on the ground where it would safely stay put. Torchlight, however, forces you to use just two small containers. And the devs' insisted on a gear system with interlocking stats and buffs like WOW. Guaranteed you'll spend half your playtime just poring over inventory trying to decide what to keep. The limited crafting system is a lottery that will likely destroy the objects you put in rather than improve them. And the system is expensive even when unsuccessful, easily bankrupting the unwary. There are also bugs left unresolved when the publisher went out of business, like broken quests and items that fail to work according to their stats. These now will never be resolved.

Polished Diablo-Clone

This is a good game. The characters and gameplay are fine-tuned to be as enjoyable and varied to play as possible. If you find the game too easy there are mods that can spice things up a bit. There is a game editor with the game and it's not hard to change things up if you take the time. It's not a long game, but neither was the original Diablo. This game only ever cost $20 at launch, so it is more of an indy-title than anything else, but it is really well made compared to the usual indy game.
