Torchlight

There are many who say that this game, and it's sequel, are spiritual successors to the Diablo games. I can't disagree with that more. Torchlight is very much a single player adventure that has the look and feel of World Of Warcraft. The visuals, the audio, the mechanics and the atmosphere of the world the devs created feels like it was inspired by W.O.W.! That's not saying is a clone, copy or knock-off, because it isn't. Torchlight has an interesting and fun storyline, the game-play mechanics have a much more "dialed-in" and refined feel to them and I have yet to find even one bug or glitch(at the time if this writing the game is 8 years old, so that is expected). My only complaint is the same complaint I had with W.O.W.; lack of controller support for real-time hand-to-hand combat type controls. That is a personal issue and does not detract from the game itself. Torchlight is an overall well done game that will not disappoint. If you enjoy adventure games of the "point and click" variety, you will enjoy this game! Purchase with confidence!

Torchlight sticks closer than it should have to the Fate games, and suffers for it. Still plenty of fun and has a good variety of player builds to experiment with. Just buy Torchlight 2 instead.

Torchlight is a great game. It was made in 11 months by Runic Games (Whose closure will haunt my dreams for years to come). It is a relativity simple game. You start in a town and have to get to the bottom to kill the big bad monster. There are 35 floors to go through and a few different environments. Each environment has a unique set of enemies. The environment changes every five levels. There are three classes. The alchemist (The mage), the destroyer (the melee/tank) and the vanquisher (the long range/ thief). Each playable class has three skill trees/ The can feel a bit generic but there are no class restrictions on the gear. The loot system works really well. The game also features a pet system. Pets fight beside you, carry your loot and can even go to town to sell all your unwanted loot. All of the above means that this game is a really fun game. And the classes makes for great replay value. (Currently on play through 3)

Torchlight is extremely well done, although short, Diablo clone. Holds up incredibly well even today, in 2017. Warcraft-like graphics didn't age a bit, combat is satisfying and punchy, and plenty of loot to navigate through. The story is a bit lackluster, but who cares about the story anyway. Sleep tight, Runic games, we'll miss you.

While Torchlight 2 is better there is still enough charm to Torchlight 1 that I still play here it and there. A very simple but well designed take on Diablo, it offers 3 classes, a primarily ranged class, a magic class, and a melee class. They can have multiple different builds and there is a lot of great gear to find. I've put hundreds of hours into this game, back before Torchlight 2, before Diablo III (which I ended up not caring for) before Path of Exile and Grim Dawn, Torchlight was the game to carry on the Diablo II lineage. It can be bought for a song when on sale and although it is quite sad that Runic has closed this game is still well worth the money and well worth your time to play it.
