Tonight We Riot

Tonight We Riot is a wonderful little brawler. It's got gorgeous pixel art visuals that's not too cluttered in gameplay and striking in cutscenes, the music is nothing but bangers, and the gameplay while somewhat simplistic is compelling. The writing is funny and on-the-nose, it pulls no punches, it's leftist and it's proud of it. I can see myself losing a lot of time to this game over the coming years, especially with co-op. At its low price, it's well worth picking up just to check it out and support a co-operative indie dev that rewards all it's workers equally rather than paying the actual workers a pittance and some already rich exec a fortune.

Nice concept, nice backround music. Really enjoying the struggle against the totalitarian system. P.S. I would like to personally thank the developers for inclouding "Loukanikos" at the 3rd level of the game. Very few people know this stray dog, which was fighting in Athens, Greece in the demonstrations during the deep financial crisis side by side with the workers. May Loukanikos be remembered for ever through this game. May the symbol of resistance be always vivid through the brave dog.

Excellent, inventive gameplay. I love that there are game studios out there offering an alternative narrative and organizational style to the big studios or overhyped indie darlings. Solidarity!

It's an interesting game, but it would've been nice if there were modding support so that you could play as the good guys.

We don't see it often. In fact, we barely see it at all but here it is, another game daring to take on the structures and systems of our society, mainly the economic system called capitalism. Usually the maximum amount of outrage we see when a game gets "political" is when a character creator doesn't mention male or female or when Nazis are getting killed. Don't be fooled, many games are political. People just don't notice because it's the dominant ideology that's being sold. Kill Russians, brown people, Chinese, get money, do (space) capitalism. This game is a critique of those types of games by showing there is another route you can take. Have you ever felt alienated? Felt that you worked hard and didn't see any fruit of your labor or you saw the same thing with other people. Did you ever wonder why so few have so much? Well, that's called capitalism, friend. Don't worry though. There is a solution and it's called revolution! Hopefully not like the one we see in the game though. Still, it's paramount to remember that the people never start the violence. The violence begins when capitalists steal you money by getting tax cuts from the government, getting subsidies from the government and, most of all, steal the profit you make by working. Meanwhile the police and the army keep everybody suppressed. Worker violence would merely be in self-defense, as is this game. It's a fun little videogame. Not very long but worth the low price. Great sprite graphics and colours. The music is energizing while the gameplay is tense. Best of all, its got great co-op! This couldn't be missing from a game with such social commentary. It's no as much fun to smash capitalism by yourself. I bought it because I really like videogames but also to support further development of these types of games. Games that dare to break with our oppressive structures and show us that a better world is possible. One where capitalism gets torn down just like racism, sexism, fascism, antisemitism etc.
