In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Lara's experiences changed her
deeply. She’s become a darker, hardened, imperious version of herself. A
desperate phone call from her former mentor Von Croy leads her to Paris.
But as she arrives, she discovers that the old man was brutally murdered
and a plot to frame her for his death is in motion. Avoiding the people
pursuing her, she needs to clear her name and unravel the mystery of an
ominous medieval order of alchemists and mystics. Surprisingly, she doesn’t
have to take on the world by herself this time. Lara’s kindred spirit, an
adventurer by the name of Kurtis Trent, is there to offer a helping hand.
But can he be trusted?
With a new graphics engine, new moves, new playable character, and a new
approach to storytelling, this Tomb Raider game feels more like a Dan Brown
novel than an Indiana Jones movie. Be sure not to miss this new chapter in
Lara Croft’s saga.
Play as Lara or her male counterpart, Kurtis Trent.
Story-driven gameplay with dialogs actively shaping the plot.
New controls allowing hand-to-hand combat, stealth attacks, last second ledge grabs and more.
I know TRAOD Isn't the best Tomb Raider game but unlike other TR games it has a different atmosphere and eccentric plot. If you like detective games and action I think you should give it a try. It has a lot of bugs and glitches but it's atmosphere equalize it. And yeah for controls try using a compatible gamepad it fits more to the game...
I tried to give this game a chance. Despite all reviews and critical notes about this chapter of our beloved oldschool "Tomb Raider" series, i was assured that it COULD be playable enough and even give some joy. But it is a definitely wrong point of view.
Lara now is a tank, by movenent and ingame controls. Remember how she happily jumped all over the edges from one game to another? Forget it. Now you're trying to move a cow.
Lara losing her strengh awfuly fast. Climbing? Pulling? Dragging? No more. You'll need to pull and drag something lesser before you can move something bigger, and every time there isn't much of a logic. Dying of gas? Chased by enemy? Don't worry, you need to find a way to "make Lara feel stronger" anytime you start another level. RPG elements is good, fresh breeze for the series of games like "Tomb Raider" - nice, but not in this game, unfortunately.
It was the longest first level i've ever seen because of awful, slow character controls. I should get back to "Tomb Raider Anniversary" to renew my feelings regarding all Lara's adventures.
Anyway, you wanna try it - you get it. But don't forget to wash your hands afterwards.
This could have been the greatest game in the Tomb Raider franchise but Core was rushed by Eidos which left the game unfinished.
The games storyline was actually amazing but lack luster game play and being rushed by Eidos left the game feeling empty.
I really love this game, it has those dark retro vibes that no other game from TR series has.
But controls are just bad, and no mod out there could make it playable. Sadly, this aspect comes as a huge "no go" as you'll most probably end up being frustrated, no matter how much you'd love the atmosphere and story.
Overall I like it for the nostalgia, but when you look at how unpolished it FEELS, it's just disappointing.
There is a mod called AOD Restoration Project, which is a MUST (available for the english and german version of the game). But with this mod u can even play with a xbox controller and u can choose between pc tank controls, ps2 original and LAU Modern. Dont know what the difference between ps2 and lau is, but I can play this game pretty well with LAU and my xbox controller. I didn't play the older tomb raiders nor the remastered version, but i think the controls here are pretty similar to the modern control scheme in the Tomb Raider Remastered, but the level structure actually supports a playstyle with these controls.
Now for the game. U have decisions in some conversations and u have to gain strength to do some actions and u have a stamina bar during climbing or hanging on the edge of a ledge. While all these are gimmicky it gives the game a somewhat feeling of a superlight RPG.
The graphics are fine, especially for Lara are enough mods available with good textures. only the prerendered cutscenes do look unbelievably bad imho.
The conversations are very bad, it doesn't feel like actual dialogs and imho the english VA is terrible (german does sound better, but still not good). But combining these dialogs with the voice acting makes it pretty fun to listen to this trash. So no complaints.
And the levels itself are sometimes a bit hard to read. I had to watch a walkthrough two times to being able to continue the level. But otherwise I had a lot of fun to walk and climb around.
Give it a try, recommended and not too long anyways.
