Or press F. Or mash F. Or press E. But only in a very specific moment, otherwise you'll light a torch.
And sometimes it's hard to tell if you're in a cutscene, or you're about to die, because you didn't start moving right after the cutscene apparently ended.
It's a fairly fun game. Somewhat linear, but it's all right. The graphics are nice, jumping around and scoring headshots is quite enjoyable.
But the QTEs and button mashing are the horse fly in the creme brulee.
Wow, what a...reboot? Much darker (and welcome) feel than the earlier vibrant and colorful entries. Played through entire game with WINE staging 7.0-rc1 and DXVK with Lutris. Crashed maybe twice throughout entire playthrough. Had a blast both with M+KB and USB PS3 controller. Specs are Ryzen 5 2400GE with 16G DDR4 @ 3000Mhz at Normal settings and rarely saw a dip below 60fps. If you are on the fence, go ahead and get this one.
While the original kicked down doors and made it hip to use lead female characters, and had female empowerment, the series was getting repetitive with the jump platforms and the limited fighting. Tomb Raider 2 and Legend were probably my two favorite original titles, both had a nice balance between fighting and exploring but regardless, it was time for a new more life like Lara and well a reboot, which is what CD did. This game features a very average looking young woman who learns to become very self reliant and empowered as the story moves forward, and more of an adventure than just tossing torches and repetitive platform jumping. My favorite will always be Tomb Raider 2 but this is a close second, and they get props for modernizing her and revitalizing the franchise, even spawned a new film featuring what appears to be a more life like Lara, unlike those bad Jolie films, need to still watch it however before I say its better or worse. In short, this game is solid, controls are fluid with a 360 gamepad, and as always with CD games, one can tweak tons of graphic settings, like being able to turn bloom, I hate bloom, and motion blur, bleh.
In short, great game, not perfect, but no video game is perfect expect for maybe New Vegas but only after downloading like 2 gigs worth of 3rd party mods. ;)
I thought this would be a good entry in the Tomb Raider World but this clearly isn't it.
Gameplay is meh, writing is terrible, everything is (badly) scripted...
I've really tried to like this game and gave it a more than decent run but it just doesn't work for me it feels stiff and boring all the time and the story isn't interesting enough for me to try and push any further.
I've hesitated between 2 and 3 stars because it's more boring and sloppy than really bad all things considered but in the end I really can't recommend it it's a big disappointment.
This made Tomb Raider finally playable for me.
In earlier games, when you hit forward on your keyboard, Lara moved into the direction, that she was facing and the camera and you as the player had to deal with that somehow. I never really could.
Now when you hit forward, Lara moves into the direction the camera and you as the player are looking, regardless of the direction Lara happens to be facing right now. That changed everything for me. For the better.
There are a few QTEs in the game, but luckily not many. Most of the time you will be fighting, climbing and occasionally exlore a tomb or two. All of that will feel very good. I've played through that game at least ten times by now.
