Description
Tomb Raider is a game that needs no introduction but if, for some reason, you are not familiar with the series, then these games are about the adventures of the beautiful, intelligent, and athletic British archaeologist Lara Croft. You might think that this job is mostly digging holes and dusting old bones. How could a game about that possibly be fun? Well, Lara Croft is anything but an ordinary archaeologist and her life is anything but boring. Lara Croft, tomb raider, occupies an interesting niche between Indiana Jones and Bayonetta: she’s a relic hunter who can kick butt and take names with the best of them.

When Lara ventures into ancient tombs in search for legendary treasures and forgotten knowledge, she must keep in mind that those responsible for safeguarding those artifacts didn’t leave them unguarded. The tombs are filled with deadly traps, bizarre monsters, and clever puzzles. Lara is not all looks, though, so she’s ready for the dangers that await. At her disposal is an arsenal of weapons from twin pistols, through all kinds of machine guns and assault rifles, all the way to grenade launchers and bazookas.

In the first game, Lara seeks a powerful artifact--the Scion--that seems to be the key to finding the mythical island of Atlantis. In the second game of the series our sexy archaeologist follows the trial of the mystical Dagger of Xian, which is a weapon used by the first Emperor of China, and it is said that by plunging the dagger into one's heart, the bearer turns into a dragon. The third part features non-linear gameplay, meaning you can choose not only the way in which you complete a level, but also your next destination in the story. Here, you fight against an evil corrupt corporation--RX Tech-- that has come into possession of a strange meteorite apparently imbued with unique properties.

Fans of action platformers, great stories, and timeless classics: good news! You don’t have to plunder any long-forgotten crypts to pick up the phenomenal Tomb Raider games: get them here on GOG.com instead.

GOG version is a mess.... but....

So this version of this game is terrible on modern machines. It is not optimised and is glitchy to nearly unplayable. I mean that even on the menu screen you cannot do anything due to a glitch in the spinning icons, you can only force quit. So the workaround is this, you need to install and download this fix. Not only does it fix the low-quality graphic issue, it also plays the cutscenes and you can map your controls. With this installer, it is what this GOG version should have been. https://github.com/LostArtefacts/Tomb1Main/releases Credit and thanks to those involved in the making of this fix.

Core Design's Peak

Tomb Raiders 1-3 was Core Design's peak and are hands-down the best TR entries. Tomb Raider 2 and 3 extend on the classic formula introduced in the original. Personally, I thought Core Design nailed it with TR3 in terms of variety, immersion, and atmosphere. It's worth mentioning the phenomenal scores for all three games by music composer Nathan McCree. Make sure you get the PSX music patch for the original TR because it's not included with that game. Also, shout-out to Shelley Blonde and Judith Gibbins, the original voices for Lara Croft. Judith Gibbins of Tomb Raider 2 and 3 is my favorite Lara voice over. Shelley Blonde voices Lara in the original game and provides sound bites (grunts, sighs) for 2 and 3. The original TR trilogy are the true games to the series and in my opinion, knock the Crystal Dynamics games out of the water. Those games are too automated and linear. The original games are far more challenging and requires the player to use strategy and mastery to become the experienced Tomb Raider.

Lara Croft Dinosaur Hunter, A Great Game

There is something very relaxing and rewarding about figuring your way around an empty and cavernous tomb all alone in silence. Of course, there is always the possibility for a pack of wolves, bears, velociraptors, or a towering tyrannosaurus rex waiting for you around each corner. Don’t be scared off by the age of the games or the controls. I found the “aged” graphics to be very charming. The PS1 style controls only took about 30 minutes to get used to, run through the obstacle course in Lara’s mansion if you need to get more comfortable. The old Tomb Raider games are on sale for pennies non-stop on GOG, so you might as well just spend the like 7 dollar doos and get the entire library. Great package, but not perfect

These are some awesome classic games. I'm so happy GOG has made this trilogy available at such a good price because I loved these games as a kid and still do. TR1 and TR3 played just fine, just as I remembered (however I really think they should have included the original soundtrack for TR1). TR2 however had some very odd bugs and issues that weren't present in the original versions. Soundtrack was totally screwy for some reason and didn't work like it should've. Also, there were odd collision glitches and issues that became noticeably annoying, to the point where I quit playing the GOG version and just went and found my original TR2 disc and played that instead (and it worked just fine). I am highly appreciative of GOG giving us the opportunity to replay these amazing games, but TR2's new glitches are quite questionable and need to be addressed.

GoG did NOTHING. Fanmade patches needed.

None of the games work as they have to! Let's take Tomb Raider 2. - full screen videos don't work properly (window borders are shown) [happens both on Steam and GoG] - CD Audio tracks are triggered incorrectly (the game plays the correct track, and then plays the NEXT track in the list which totally doesn't match what's happening on screen and ruins the atmosphere) [happens on GoG only] I'm mentioning just TR2 because it's my favourite, but for all 3 games (TR1, TR2, TR3) I had to install a series of community made patches to make their graphics and sound work as they should (I'm on Windows 7). I don't know who is responsible for this, but this is absolutely unacceptable "quality" and violates GoG universal promise to deliver every game updated and working on modern systems. When the GoG version is worse than the Steam one (I have both and the audio issues are not present on the Steam one) it feels like a total betrayal. I'm considering a refund. :(
