Description
Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather odd jobs: they give dying people another chance to live. Literally. Using a technology that allows artificial memories to be implanted, the doctors can weave and transform the mind of a patient to help them live the life they wanted to live...

To The Moon follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their attempt to do so, they travel deep through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the fragmented events that spanned a lifetime, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish.

Johnny's last wish is, of course, to go to the moon.

Pure art

After anyone plays this game it's hard to deny that games are/can be an art form just like movies and books. You get many of the middle of the road stuff, but then sometimes you get one of those peices of fiction that captures you. Without giving much away, you start out traveling to a house where a man is on his deathbed and you are to use this machine to grant him a wish by altering his memories in the past. It's very touching and the ending leaves you wanting more, especially when they say "end of part 1" meaning that they are going to indeed make a sequal and I can't wait for it. A very emotional ending, I warn you now.

Beautiful but...

Yes, all the reviews are right, the music is beautiful, the ideas are clever, and it can make you cry. But it's not so much a game as a touching interactive story, with very little "gaming" actually inside. It's an experience, and it's very enjoyable, but if you really get down to it - you're really doing nothing but turning pages, even if the action you need to perform is a little less basic. There is not enough "gaming" inside this game. Still, if you want to see something that IS unique, and support a guy who was talented enough to actually write, code AND compose the music - this is a great way to spend 10 dolalrs.

I expected to love this

I went into this knowing full well that To The Moon is a point and click story, not a game. I love visual novels, 16-bit graphics and am I'm very story-oriented in my game selection. The game has beautiful music and an interesting concept. But I didn't love it and it seems to be a combination of things. Poor mechanics take away from the visual novel style- awful pathfinding, repetitive tasks, easy puzzles that seem tacked on for the sole purpose of making it more 'game like'. I found myself wishing it had embraced its visual novel-y elements by making it easier for the 'reader' to navigate between scenes. As far as story, I feel like I played a different game from other reviewers. I found the pop culture references to be trite and excessive. The various scenes as you travel through the game feel inconsistent, as if the game isn't really sure when they're happening. To avoid spoilers, that all I can really say on that one. The dialogue felt very 'young', for lack of a better word, which undermined its attempts to be a mature story. Maybe the issues above just pulled me out of the story too often and too hard, or maybe it was that I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I 'got' all the references, but I was left feeling like maybe the game was just meant for a younger target audience...and if your major selling point is the strength of the story, that story should be an enduring one that is able to stand on its own for multiple age groups.

Amazing Piece of Interactive Fiction

To The Moon is more an interactive fiction piece then a game but please don't let that dissuade you. It is a very touching story wrapped up in an inserting science fiction concept. The graphics fit well with the story because they really help with the felling of nostalgia in this game. Which nostalgia is a very important element of. This game is one of the few pieces of media that have brought tears to my eyes. It is a truly wonderful experience.

Still thinking about it, so touching.

This game is simply magic. It has no great graphics and it´s not really a game. It´s more like a story you play through. But this story is probably the best and most touching i ever played. Not to mention the great soundtrack that´s in the game. Make sure to buy this as well. Especially the Piano songs are excellent. Sometimes you just stand around in a scene, just to listen to the music further a while longer. At least i did. :) I never had such a "gaming" experience. It touched me in every way and i finished it few months ago. Thinking about some scenes and especially about the ending, still touches me. I can´t imagine when a game ever did that! Buy it and you will see what i mean.
