Description
Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather odd jobs: they give dying people another chance to live. Literally. Using a technology that allows artificial memories to be implanted, the doctors can weave and transform the mind of a patient to help them live the life they wanted to live...

To The Moon follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their attempt to do so, they travel deep through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the fragmented events that spanned a lifetime, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish.

Johnny's last wish is, of course, to go to the moon.

Honestly didn't like it.

I'm not sure why this game gets all the rave reviews. It's emotionally manipulative, using a couple of sadistic twists in an attempt to make you feel grief, including, but not limited to, mental illnesses. As for the gameplay, it's pretty straightforward. I suppose it's a type of adventure game, but it never tries to impede upon the story, which is a shame, as the story is awful. Anyway, a lone voice in a sea of acclaim. To quote Mel Brooks, "Tragedy is when you cut your finger. Comedy is when you fall into a sewer and die." If you understand those wise words, avoid.

Is this a game? Or an interactive movie?

To keep it short: I liked and enjoyed "playing" it, but this is more a interactive movie than a game. The story is well written and touching. The "game" itself is quite short (2-5h) depending on how much time you take to enjoy it. Concerning the ingame music: it's just great! Don't expect a long (challenging) "game". The reward will be a heart touching experience you won't regret.

Wonderful Game

Bought this as soon as I saw the tweet saying it was available from GOG. Played it from start to finish without moving from my PC. One of the best gaming experiences of my life. This game is by turns hilarious, thought-provoking, chilling, heart-warming, touching and endearing... but always brilliant. I can't recommend it enough.

Beautiful Interactive Movie

I wish there were a better word for "To The Moon's" medium. I don't consider it a video game. The actual "game" parts were actually really bad. The controls are terrible, and I pretty much rolled my eyes every time I had to take control of my character. Also, it seems To The Moon's length was artificially inflated to provide more gameplay segments. Regardless, when viewed as a briefly interactive indie movie, "To The Moon" is incredible. The music is beautiful and fits perfectly. You will be punched in the heart guts at the title screen alone. The graphic style and art direction are also great. I docked a star for the poor gameplay, and spots of cutesy or ham-fisted "meta" dialogue that briefly detracted from the otherwise moving story. So set aside 5 hours, and find time to watch this as you would a movie (it would make a fantastic and inexpensive date night). Hopefully some day we can see this picked up as an indie movie.

Not my cup of tea.

I bought this a while ago and I have to say that, despite my best intentions, I just couldn't get into this thing. It does have a very nice soundtrack, it does have a good mood (unless it's completely wrecked by popculture refernces that shouldn't be there) but I had a hard time liking the characters you play. I guess the humour just didn't click with me because it's a very particular kind of jokes. (I'm having a hard time avoiding the term "hipster" here) From a storytelling perspective: Very powerful. However, from a gameplay perspective I can hardly take this for a video game. It's on par with mario is missing in this regard. I don't mind slow, character-driven roleplaying games. I do love me a good story. To the Moon has all of this but it lacks in every other department in my opinion. I just don't think that this is a game. It's an interactive story.
