Solid story for a great price

I completed DLC in less than 3 hours. It's relatively short, but price is fair and content is good. There are at last some real dialogues included. Besides normal TWOM live the next day gameplay, there is also story and purpose other than survivng in this DLC and the story is solid. Really worth the price.

Good, Could've Been Great

Well, I won't spoil the game for you. Suffice to say that I did enjoy the story-driven gameplay, but it could've been much more. I finished it in something like 2.5 hours. One criticism that I can make is that, in Classic mode, the choices you made weighed so heavy because you had to choose between choices that lead to different but equally dire outcomes, while in A Father's Promise, you don't really have that choice; so the impact of your decisions doesn't weigh as much. And the scenario I believe, could've benefited with Amelia having dialogue and interaction with Adam, hooking the player into connecting deeper and investing more emotionally. However, considering that it was worth $2, I'd say A Father's Promised is still worth it

Good but could have been much better

Overall I was fairly disappointed by this. It's very short - a couple of hours at most and there is no replay value. It's also very linear with no choices at all, it doesn't matter what you do the game will always end the same way and you don't need to worry about survival at all. The problem is that this makes it harder to feel involved in the story. For example, fairly regularly Adam will stop working for a few seconds because he's depressed but because the words and animation are always the same it is just gets annoying after a while. I think it could have been great to have to make decisions about helping people or risking getting injured etc with the same story - it would have made more of an impart. Overall it is worth playing especially given the very low price, but it doesn't have the impact of the main game.

not interesting

I didn't expect much, but i was hoping for an interesting scenario at least, and got disappointed. It started by being annoyed that you can't sleep or scavenge for the first few days. Nothing i did really mattered. For example it seems to me that i could have as well just not improved my home in any way and there would have been no difference. So it's really just a story, without much game behind it. Since i was looking more for a scenario than a story, so the fact that i did not like the story doesn't matter much. But it was disappointing as well :-/ I give it 2 stars because it's cheap at least and it has new locations. Altough i love the game, i won't be buying the other stories unless they also add something to the basegame (like new locations).

A little too simplistic for me

"Father's Promise" was the first TWoM DLC that I played. The premise of being a father having to take care of his sick daughter was an interesting one. Sadly, I felt rather underwhelmed by this DLC. Playing "Fading Embers" afterwards further highlighted the downfalls of FP because FE was so much better. Like other people have mentioned, there's not much survival mechanics in it because the story is so short that by the time you've set up a good base, it ends. Which would be fine if the story was well fleshed-out, but it's not, really. It's intended to be a tearjerker, but it's very simplistic in the way it achieves this. TWoM sometimes has a tendency towards this, taking a very obvious approach to their moral lessons to the point where it sometimes feels like the game is taking your hand and pointing out: "This is sad! Feel sad, player!" Usually, it's not so bad that it feels TOO overt, and of course the subject matter usually is very sad, but FP tips over that line (in my opinion). It took a very simple and obvious approach to its storyline, which I was a bit disappointed by. There's also no multiple endings or any kind of divergent pathways. The story is very linear. I much prefer "Fading Embers" due to its more complex approach to the moral questions of its storyline, and its branching pathways/multiple endings, so my suggestion is to buy that instead as it's definitely worth the slightly higher price over "Father's Promise".
