A new approach, extremely well done, but limited

While TWOM is one of my all time favourite games, mostly for the simplicity of playing and powerful emotional engagement, this DLC raises mixed feelings for me. It uses the TWOM system to direct a story. You are limited, looking after your sick daughter. For the first three nights, you can't scavenge, forced to stand guard over Amelia. You pass out on the third night, and Amelia vanishes. From then on, you're a distraught detective. Depression interrupts your tasks with hopelessness. As you follow the trail, new venues open up. The story is very narrowly scripted, but you can always choose where to go at night, so you can "prepare" before blindly chasing after the mystery abducter(s). It is impossible to say much about the ending without giving away horrendous spoilers. There is only one ending, so replayability is virtually nil. It will shock you, perhaps disappoint you. You wish it was different. Then the reason is explained. And the more you think about it, the more you realise (intellectually) that the game just made you experience something you would probably never experience. Never want to experience it And that it was crafted to deliver that, in an incredibly mature and sensitive way. The dilemma is this: that experience is something money can't buy. But I can't help feeling disappointed, and frustrated. Cheated out of an alternative ending, perhaps. The way I feel after the finish, is at odds with the intellectual assessment of what it was all about. And that's what makes it hard to give 5 stars. I love TWOM, and suspect that this DLC is as good as it could ever be. It is an extremely worthy add-on. But be prepared for a full on emotional experience, and something that will live with you forevermore. It's a genie that can't be put back in the bottle, no matter how much you want to. But if everyone experiences this, the world will be a more compassionate and understanding place. Unless you're disappointed by the lack of instant gratification.

Linear Plot, Sudden Ending

The plot forces a somewhat linear exploration as locations slowly unlock. As other reviews have mentioned- the DLC is generally lacking in content or replayability. Player actions feel and seem irrelevant as there is only 1 ending. The real question is whether this is worth $2. If the devs had unlocked at least 1 different ending as a new game+ then I think this would have been much better received and players would not mind playing the DLC again for the alternate ending. As is- there is no incentive to play twice since the ending occurs suddenly and isn't all that great IMO. Players demand more dynamic gameplay than this... even for $2.

A fall from greatness

Since gog will not allow me to edit reviews I guess I will rate this in place of the original TWOM/little ones expansion. When TWOM first came out it worked and played well. I really liked it. However every time new content or patches were released the game just got buggier and buggier. It was minor at first, stuff like dialogue not making sense. Then the merchant broke, though honestly I liked that bug because it made things more difficult. However we are now at the point that the game starts in this new expansion mode but since you're not playing the expansion nothing can progress. It just doesn't work anymore and since none of the previous bugs were ever fixed I can only imagine this is just how things are now forever. A once great game, now a broken mess. I won't be buying this new stuff.

Heartbreaking short story

Heartbreaking story which comes quick to the point. There is an element which could almost be seen as cliche, but it worked out for me and caught me off guard, maybe I was too naive, or too focused on survival and following the trail... At the end, I felt both satisfied and extremely sad; as it should be with such a story. A good start for the trilogy of story DLCs.

Such a piece!

To be honest, I really enjoyed it. It's a bit more of what we had, but this time with a story to follow. The story to me is pretty interesting. To me, worth the price.
