The Witness

Some people say this game is pretentious, meaning that's a problem. Well, it may be a point of view, but that's not a fact. It's an opinion, obviously. Something is pretentious to someone based on what the person is used to "consume". From my point of view, it's not pretentious at all. It's just "deep". If you're not into questioning you, what you see, what you are, what kind of things you notice in the world and the reasons that makes you notice them, if you're not into semiotics and etc you'll probably don't like it very much. It still gonna be a good looking game (artistically speaking), with some nice puzzle mechanics, but sooner or later it will become repetitive and uninteresting. On the other hand, if you're open to have a philosophically experience, then you should try this game. Witness will make you think, question and it's gonna provoke you some great, amazing epiphanies. It really is that great.

It feels like it's trying to be more than what it is. There isn't any sort of story nor point to solving the puzzles. I hardly consider line drawing to be a puzzle anyhow. Oftentimes, the game neglects to offer you any hint towards understanding the puzzles. You can look around the enviorment for clues but if you don't know what you're looking for then you likely wont be able to solve it without help. I really wanted to like this game but I just couldn't.

BEAUTIFUL looking game let down by tedious and repetitive puzzles. Don't buy if you expect a game like Portal or Talos Principle or you will be disappointed. The puzzles in this game feel almost like a chore and most of them could be randomly generated. I give it 2.5/5 Stars because of the stunning game world.

Right now, I am really glad this game came from a humble bundle and I didn't actually pay for it on it's own. I would be livid with this tripe if I had actually bought it. As it is, I stand dumbfounded on just how far one developer can climb up their own *** in a desperate attempt to look profound without "cancelling sequels they never announced." Give this game a skip. It looks nice, but it really doesn't offer anything else but some pretty scenery.
