***Why are you still reading reviews?***
Unless you are just killing time while the Witcher 3 is downloading, STOP AND BUY THE GAME NOW. Why are you still reading this review? I mean seriously.. the ratings this game got should be enough and a no brainer if you like any form or semblance of an RPG, I'd even go as far as saying evein if you DON'T like RPG's. I know, how can you believe the hype? how is this game so fantastic? what about the crappy controls i hear about? Don't let a tiny learning curve (not that much) and a few naysayers stand in your way to becoming immersed in the story of Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf.. If you like a well written story.. BUY IT.. if you like the thrill of exploration and questing at your own pace.. BUY IT.. if you like fetch quests... DON'T buy it.. go play WoW and grind some more... if you like side quests to be intriguing and full of adventure like no other RPG.. BUY IT.. if you want a gritty fantasy world that is NOT dark or edgy for it's own sake, but is alive and breathing, well balanced, with characters as diverse as every single side quest... BUY IT.. if you want a game that has a mini game that is just naturally so good it will distract you from the actual game, giving testament to how every part and parcel of this game kicks every other suit and tie run bullcrap money grabbing "AAA" title out there, teaching the big boys a lesson in how it's done... THEN BUY THIS GAME... If only bigger companies with bigger budgets, more time and resources would make games HALF this good.... well, that would be freaking awesome. But alas, we see as the years go by, once loved companies and beloved franchises getting slowly watered down.. and the gamers that once filled the halls and controlled the reigns of the development studios being replaced by the loud mouthed and deep pocketed corporate suits, turning a blind eye to the hardcore fans and casual players alike who built the empires upon which they stand. (glances over at the trailer for Diablo Immortal... *sigh*)

It's not just hype.
I went in to this game in 2018 with all the hype about how good it was. I just wanted to see how well CD Projekt Red could make a game since I'm looking forward to their next title very much. Witcher 3 was so hyped up I knew it had to be solid... but I really did not expect it to become one of if not my favorite games of all time. It really is that good. I think what really did it for me is that... while it is a big (very big) open world... unlike some of those type of games, the story in this was excellent... but not just in the main quest. In so many big open games, the side quests kindof become just a way to get some more xp or money. The side quests in this game are gold. You do them because they are interesting more than anything else. The world is interesting. The characters are interesting. Some of the sidequests have better stories than a lot of main quests in other games. And the gameplay is solid. Nothing truly groundbreaking... but very solid. I like the little bits of detective work thrown in. And the fact that if you prepare for a big monster, you can take down stuff even several levels higher just because you read up on it and used the right spells and potions. It's a fantastic game that truly lives up to the ratings it has. I look forward to Cyberpunk.
