Worth playing in 2021?

Originally I missed this game. Since it was available cheap, I decided to try it, and inmediately played through twice. Pros: - immersive gameplay with gritty atmosphere - well-written, CDPR has very good writers - important characters are not clichés. You sympathize with enemies, and sometimes loath your allies. Often you cannot decide which is which. This part is great. - no handholding and immersion breaking quest markers on the map - nice surprises - choices and consequences (even though the follow up in Witcher 3 is lousy) - nice weapon and armor progression - looks! Armor designs are better then W3! Cons: - strange difficulty curve. Or rather brick wall. The beginning in Flotsam is super harsh. The game then gets progressively easier, up to the point of seemingly playing with a god mode with cheat in the end. - some annoying QTEs. (you can turn them off in the menu) - the game has a bad habit of a cutscene leading you into a fight scene with no save - this ties into potions. You have to drink them before the cutscene, but you have to know that the cutscene will lead you into a fight. This won't happen on your first playthrough. - crafting component weight is not really thought out - I am not bad in rpg puzzles, but I had to use gamebanshee's walkthrough on a few occasions Tips: - a mod from nexus, called "weight watchers". This makes every crafting component 0 kg - there is a "navigate to wraith infested battlefield" section in mid game. You get a talisman to guide you through it, but the game doesn't tell you to _use it with pressing the Y key_ - gamebanshee's walkthrough is nice if you cannot figure out a puzzle Overall I think this game holds up well. The only really annoying thing is the inventory weights, but you can nullify it with a small mod. Controls are not the best, and graphics are 2010, but if you can get over these, the experience is worth it. Definietly in my personal TOP10 of post-2000 rpgs.

Not quite as good as the first part..

Graphically stunning game, however due to this probably quite limited gameworld. Does not feel as open as the first part and controls and interface are less than optimum. Maybe that will be fixed in a future extended edition. Playtime is also less than in part I. Storywise it is again a genuinely unique experience, however except for act one you really never stray to much from the main story, as everything really happens more or less in one plays. I'd probably like a less graphically stunning but more open game world more (and more towns, people, chickens, dogs, immersion). Still it is a good game, just not as good for me as the Witcher 1. 4 + 1/2 stars

Great Work!

I just wanted to thank CD Projekt RED for making such a great game and renewing it with massive content without expecting additional payment. If you didnt play Witcher series, you are missing a lot! Both games has to be played if you really like this genre. I am proud of supporting you guys (got the steam version) and hope you will come up with many more great games like this one.

Great RPG with very few flaws

I loved The Witcher 2, even more than The Witcher 1. Graphics are gorgeous, combat system is AWESOME, storytelling and characters are epic and the first 2 chapters are really nice. The only big flaws I see with the game is that chapter 3 was clearly rushed and left "incomplete", not to mention how short it is: it almost feels like another game, really. The Witcher 2 EE is a true gem and I strongly recommend it to everyone in search for a really good game, but I believe it could have been even better if only the developement team spent more time on chapter 3. Maybe the publishers rushed it... who knows? A shame, though!

Still call Bioware the king? Be prepared, CD Projekt performed regicide.

The sequel to what was arguably the best RPG this generation, and it most certainly lives up to the reputation. Some still prefer the 1st to this, and vice versa, but neither are wrong. As it's just going back and forth about which masterpiece resonates more with them. And even if you didn't like the first, you might like this. Again CD Projekt delivers a mature game that is deep, engaging, and fun. With incredible writing and characters, and choice that matters. It doesn't handhold you by giving you a good dialog option (for good characters) and bad (for bad), it's not black and white. Which makes the decisions feel real, as you weigh your options and think about the effect of your choices. Not funneling you into a certain character archetype, and calling it freedom. Making the Mass Effect system that is gloated over by the masses feel amateur. As it blends the deep, moral ambiguous dialog system in the first game and the cinematic presentation of Mass Effect. The combat despite being very action based is quite deep and challenging, requiring the use strategy. And it's all-around fun, never did I feel like an enemy encounter was interrupting, which is quite something for an RPG. The story is great, but might be a little hard to take in (with the immense lore and characters) if you haven't played the first game. And I'd also recommend the novels too. The soundtrack is great, though I did like the music in the first game, if only a bit, more. And now for the graphics, some of the best in gaming if your rig can handle it, end of story. I do feel I should bring up an issue a lot of people had, which is the final act. And while it does sorta come to a close pretty abruptly I wouldn't really say "rushed" and the Enhanced Edition does a good job of alleviating that issue. Now to talk about gog, if you plan on getting this game, which I very highly recommend you do, gog is the way to go (at least when it comes to digital distribution). As it has loads of extras and is completely without that dreaded thing known as DRM. So download the game and appease the great Zoltan, as the only thing worse than a sad dwarf is a very sad dwarf.
