Love you CDPR!!!!

Okay, my journey started with witcher 1, in steam. Played through all installment and DLCs. Now this game is where it all begun. Insane world buliding , deep lore, a little clunky combat system- loved all of it. Now again - this all in my steam library. Still I bought it in GOG just to leave this review. Also want to say ,"CDPR, love you guys, always hyped, God bless you" --Just a fan

Worth the time

Graphics - Hold up surprisingly well in my opinion. Character models and some animations very dated but overall I thought the world looked great. Ran excellent on my machine no major bugs or glitches. Story - Brilliant and the real highlight here. I'd never played any of the other games or read the books and I really enjoyed the world, the backstory and the characters. I love how sceptical and even cynical Geralt as the main character can be and which is a novelty for a fantasy RPG. The story is full of choices the consequences of which are often delayed or not immediately obvious which along with the fact there's very little black and white moralizing and many of the decisions are genuinely tough really gives the story a sense of weight and keeps you engaged. I loved how intervention the side quests are with the main plot and very few feel like filler Gameplay - The weakest aspect of the game in my opinion. First of there's absolutely tons of walking and backtracing around the various maps that make up the different chapters. The combat system is an interesting idea with and do be fair does mesh well with the feeling of actually being a Witcher with you meditating before fights to brew your own potions and oils to be taken before fights then having two swords to switch between each with 3 stances and various magic spells in the mix too. In reality I ended up defeating probs 80 percent of enemies in the game by stunning them with the very first spell you get and then one shottng them and this was playing on hard. When it wasn't tediously easy it was often frustratingly unfair with enemies swarming or stun locking you as soon as you enter a room before you can even draw your sword. Conclusion: Defo recommend if you like story driven RPGS. It's a slow burner though and the gameplay isisnt the most engaging. I estimate I spent about 50 hours on it and had a blast which is class considering I got it for free.

Errand boy with womanizer charms

In The Witcher, you are a sterile killer with pale skin, cat eyes, throat cancer and get all the women. It is a wet boy’s dream. You drink wives tears to get rid of Vodka intoxication, gamble, fight in bars, converse or kill a werewolf, stay neutral amid political intrigue and sorcerers, read a book on how to dissect a wyvern, discuss the atom with an alchemist and slay swarms of drowned dead. The world is well build and beautiful for a game of 2007. The story is a combination of The Game of Thrones and Dracula, where you choices are gray and dark gray: choose the lesser evil. The game is not without problems. Back in the days, The Witcher played as watching American television: Every minute an endless loading screen. Add constant desktop crashes and I simply gave up. Today in 2021, loading times are reduced to a few flashes that give me headaches and epileptic seizures. Crashes are still present, as well as many graphical glitches and broken AI. NPCs have multiple voices. CD projekt Red quality issues did not start with Cyberpunk 2077. The world is filled with copy-paste. Clones of plot characters can be found everywhere, and a mere handful of voice actors cast all characters. Cities and caves are reused over and over, and filled with new monster types each chapter. You walk trenches while doing hundreds of errand quests in the same city section. The story and lore of each quest is interesting, but they all involve fetch and deliver. The later chapters swap the open world for a scripted story. Combat is not much better. It starts with an interesting crafting system of potions that reminds me of memorizing spells in DnD. You select one of your many swords and a fighting style. Then it is clicking the left mouse button at the right moment till the fight is over. Geralt makes somersaults and finishing moves, but you as player do little more than spam the mouse button. The Witcher brings an interesting story with gameplay that is boring before halfway through.

Good fun and great value

I just bought this a few weeks ago, never having played any of the games from The Witcher series. I'm really enjoying the game. What really matters to me is having an immersive game and this game is delivering. The voice acting is good and occasionally somewhat amusing. And there are plenty of characters and quests to keep me busy. There is a fair amount of shuttling back and forth between non-player characters to get information or items from them, then heading off to pick something else up before heading back to so-and-so for yet more information. So there is a little more quest solving than I had expected and not quite enough combat. But I'm enjoying the game overall. I've probably been playing for about 30 hours and I'm into chapter 3 of the 9 chapters within the game. When The Witcher 2 is on sale, I'll probably buy that as well.
