Thus begins your adventure within the Realm of Greyhawk. It is an adventure that will lead to the source of a deep and abiding mystery, to the very core of evil itself.
An evil demoness founded a cult dedicated to exploring evil in its most elemental forms. This cult was based in a temple just outside the village of Hommlet in a vile shire known as Nulb. Soon, this cult rose to rule the region with tyranny and grim times of chaos and violence ensued. Hard-fought battles were waged and the war was eventually won by the good armies of nearby lands. The temple was razed, the villains were imprisoned, and order was restored. The temple itself faded into distant memory. Until now...

utilizing the 3.5 rule set for Dungeons and dragons table top gaming, this still has newer games beat in simplicity of mechanics, it has a few flaws but so does the table top game. if the few flaws in the mechanics were fixed and a sandbox mode was added, this would be the best starting point for a table top game engine hands down.
I went around the local used computer game shops in my town for months and months trying to find a used copy of this game, finally I gave up and decided to buy it from GOG. It initially would not load or function in any manner. After applying updates and a bunch of help from the modding community (who is still active by the way) I got this game running. Let me just say this, I am very pleased with the game. Had it worked right out of the download I would have given it a better rating.
The combat is amazing, being a fan of D&D and turn based strategy games, this was a gem for me. One of the best combat orientated video games I have EVER played. honestly. I dislike all of the hack and slash games that are being produced now, or mostly at least.
Story wise it falls short. It's okay, but it isn't a Baldurs gate replacement by a long shot. Neverwinter nights the original (no expansions) was as better at telling a story. So there it is just 'okay' enough to get you from one point to another.
The graphics are great for the period of development.
Sounds are pretty good, I never noticed them being terrible, but to be honest, I usually play music in the background anyway, so I never pay a lot of attention to it.
one gripe: I have to 'run as administrator' to play it and make a new save every time and delete my old one. the file corrupted at least 10 times before I figured out that you need a new save each and every time. Annoying, but I got use to it.
Over all, it is a 3/5 for me, but only because it is sooo bad before the patches, but after it is playable.
Well, my cleric got wounded so I've decided to take a rest. It was impossible to perform, as I am being attacked by new group of random enemies every 30-60 minutes, thus it is impossible to play further. When this kind of thing happened third attempt in a row, I gave up. Shameful, as it looks like an interesting game.
Anyone been able to get this to run on Windows 8.1? I have an i5 3570k processor and a GeForce GTX 660 2gb pci-e card. Is there some trick in the compatibility settings, etc to get this to run? I am not having any luck. It just doesn't do anything. If I can't get this to work then I am just going to get my money back.
Thanks
