Welcome to CREO, the megacorporation saving our world! A catastrophic event has knocked you out during the first day on the job… you wake up equipped with a heavy-grade exoskeleton, in a destroyed section of the complex. Robots gone haywire, insane augmented co-workers and rogue AI - everything wants you dead.
Defy deadly enemies and huge bosses in tight, visceral melee combat. Target and slice specific limbs off your foes, with a next-gen loot system where you loot what you dismember! Equip, upgrade and craft new weapons and armors sliced from enemies, and make yourself stronger through a fresh take on leveling-up.
Great game if you like soulslike titles. Very boring if you don't. Plenty of of environmental storytelling, very little actual plot. A lot of action, greatly balanced. Few main bosses.
Highly underrated - really brings the Souls-Formula forward
"The Surge" is one of my favourite games of 2017. The gameplay itself really brings the Souls-Formula forward introducing things like attacking specific limbs, saving "souls" and many more. The game runs perfectly smooth even on older machines, I didn´t have any technical issues whatsoever. I really like this futuristic industrial setting, which is rarely seen in games. But, this game also can be very frustrating and at some points, you surely need several tries. So only buy if you like fast paced action RPGs like "Dark Souls" or maybe "Bloodborne". By the way: I don´t think the mission packs and all that side stuff is really necessary. Just buy the core game for a few bucks. I think this title is highly underrated. Grab it in the sales!
this is definitely the better version of the two
I was going to give TS2 a try but the color scheme is so depressingly washed out which makes TS1 the better of the two visually - on a sidenote this can compensate for a lot of things if a game just looks great (not always of cause if developeras don't understand game optimization). in that TS1 shines like a bright star. the game story is what it is and nothing really new but it will drive the story in a direction you can work with. the enemies build up further in the game and are challenging where you have to change strategy and tactics to overcome them. you die often and start all over often. it can be punishing and if you like that sort of „REWARD" for playing to be killed, this gem is for you. at least you could try to learn from your mistakes that got you killed. rather interesting.
awesome colors
awe-inspiring level design,
I recommend playing TS1 first and watch a TS2 gameplay on YouTube first, before buying
The game is a well made sci-fi souls-like story driven by an obscure plot that player will (or not) figure when exploring the levels, killing and beeing killed (A LOT by the way) in a constant search for scrap to build better equipment and keep the fight in a "safe" level.
.
The scenario remember a bit of Alien movies, since it's what comes to mind of almost all people when plot spin around of futuristic space stories and this kind of thing: It's dark, metalic, scrumbled, full of manacing corridors and corners where the bad robots can jump and surprise you any time. Theresn't onl one big map to explore, but the fun part is you don't have only one way to go from point A to point B on each of them and travel between them. It's up to you stop and find the way to the next boss that best fit you.
Fight against the enemies is pretty fine too! Most of the time you will be just locking your aim into their weakest spots, atacking and avoinding beeing hit no matter if in a one on one, long range or multiple enemies battle, but some times you will need to focus on the armored spots and hit it again and again unrelentlessly to drop something. It could be the old "farm and grind" mechanic, but is used in a more clever way.
Boss fightes otherwise are just kill or be killed. If you don't study their patterns and figure how to do some damage to them, you probabbly will die. Theres that better rewards if you finish'em in a specific way, but i personaly don't had bothered with it, just faced the fights and go my way until the end.
Anyway... The game isn't so big, couldn't be the best between the genre and have some issues for more hardcore or not so much players, but its fine, with sufficient fun to defy you and keep you playing for a time if you don't play it just thinking all Dark Souls thing, then just play and took your own opinions!
