LEWIS & CLARK COUNTY, MONTANA, US

Ten years ago, teenager Nicole and her mother left the family hotel after discovering her father Leonard's affair with, and pregnancy of Rachel, a girl her own age who eventually committed suicide.

Now that both of her parents have passed, Nicole hopes to fulfill her mother’s last will to sell the hotel and make amends to Rachel's relatives. With the will and determination to put that chapter behind her, she returns to the hotel with the family’s lawyer to audit the decaying structure.

As the weather unexpectedly turns for the worst, Nicole has no way to leave the large mountain lodge, and finds support in Irving, a young FEMA agent, using one of the first radio telephones ever built.

With his help, Nicole starts to investigate a mystery far deeper than what people in the valley thought. A story of love and death, where melancholy and nostalgia melt into a thrilling ghost tale.

  • Explore the vast and detailed hotel, unravelling dark secrets of the family's past
  • Binaural audio for a truly immersive experience
  • Intriguing, touching and mature storytelling
  • Multi-layered narrative thriller, combining elements of mystery and horror

Brief experience with some minor gripes

Expecting anything more than an interactive story is going to set you up for disappointed. Although there is ample opportunity to explore, and the game even explicitly encourages you to pay attention to details, it is not really required to progress the narrative. Most of the time in this completely linear game, it is made obvious what you need to do next, and otherwise there is a mechanic that fills in the blanks most of the time. And the game will restrict interacting with certain objects depending on where you are in the game. Having said that, early exploring will allow you to more effectively traverse the hotel. Movement feels a bit sluggish, although not to the point where it becomes really distracting. In that sense it is nice that the game helps the player from getting completely lost, or chasing dead ends. Speaking of which, audio in this game seems to be mostly a 2D affair, with no consideration of the floor you are on or physical obstructions such as walls. There are only a few moments where audio cues are important, though. Finally, I cannot not address the controversy. There is an in-game character that talks positively about a deplorable situation, which could be interpreted as approving said situation. I think the game makes it clear through other messages that it is a very inappropriate situation. Overall I can recommend this game as a brief linear experience with a rather dark story that players should expect to finish in one or two evening.

head bob outta control

who makes a game nowadays with no option to tweak fov slider, head bob and other simple fixes to accommodate game induced nausea. apparently these devs do. couldnt even get past the intro section when my characters head bobbed like it was in an earthquake even tho she was only walking out of her car. slowly. blurg. why do devs think head bob is a thing anyways, our point of view when walking doesnt sway and bob and dip like that, well it does but our brains compensate for the movement. anyway, gonna get a refund on this hot mess. btw, really loved the anti abortion blurp at the beginning of game which pretty much told me all i needed to know about the devs

Fantastic Story With Minor tech Gripes

I started out not really liking the main character much and finding the story kind of slow. It really did get better as it went and by the end I thought it was amazing, loved the twists and turns and had a better appreciation for Nicole. I think there is a fair bit that is left up to interpretation that I would have liked answered but it is by no means an incomplete story. I won’t post spoilers but the story ended up being one of my all time favourites in terms of walking sim games. It felt like a more macabre version of Firewatch. The game did have some wasted parts to it. You can pick up a fair bit of objects but they provide exactly nothing to the story aside from the items you are meant to pick up. The map system was decent but I think it could have done a little better job marking certain locations so it was less maze like. There are also a fair bit of dialogue choices but I can’t seem to find anything that they actually do as the story is extremely linear. There is also a timer on those choices which I found varied at time with sometimes getting a solid 30 seconds or so and other times getting just a split second to choose. The voice acting is great as is the music although certain bits of music were a tad overused. The graphics are fairly well done. The object detail ranges from excellent to decent. The animations are also well done. I played TSORF on Linux using Wine. It never crashed. I did notice a slight issue where on a multi monitor setup the game would move things from one window to the other when in full-screen. It was an easy fix as I just unchecked full-screen. The game has a resolution setting, a v-sync toggle, and one graphics option. The v-sync toggle is useless as the game has a 60 FPS cap by default. The performance was the full 60 FPS with exception to 1 drop to 59 FPS. The game uses a checkpoint save system where there is only one save file that gets overwritten each time. The game also erases your save file after you finish the game.

yeah... rubbish bin

it seems the developers really don't want you to sit back and enjoy at your own pace it was on sale, no quarrels... to the dev team the player has to be able to save a game as they see fit, especially in complex story driven games like this my goodness !!! as the game is

i want to report this game

I think it is problematic . This game jsut validate that a 40 something teacher abuse a 16 year old girl. The story is only driven into justify such act. I don't have issue with morally ambigious things but this game give only the voice to the predator and not the victim. it is a 4 hours game defending Humbert Humbert and it is not ok
