I have loved the settlers series with the preference of this single game. However after many years playing the version I bought on here with no issues at all I have finally had to admit defeat as unfortunately it seems it is no longer compatible with windows 10, even when using the compatibility mode.
It is a phenomenally addictive game and one I would recommend to anybody. I'm now into my 30's and I still love this game after nearly 20 years of playing it. Pick it up! Its cheap and you wont regret it!
One of my first games and what a perfect game that is. It hasn't aged a day. Beautiful graphics, great soundtrack and sound design and most importantly very very playable. Only Settlers 4 has a similar value in this series, but this one is among my "hall of fame" titles: SimCity 3000, Commandos and Heroes of M&M III
I really recommend to give it a try even now.
I am a huge, life-long fun of the Settlers 2 games, so it was quite a struggle not to buy S3. When I finally did buy it, all that followed was dissapointment. There is actually no improvement over S2 in this game IMO. The graphics, while technologically better, are less pleasant than S2's. Roads have been abandoned for some reason, and IMO they were quite THE feature of S2's. Difficulty is a joke, you will you just build a resource base and then "BOOM!", million soldiers at your disposal.
Just get S2 or anniversary edition and skip this RTS.
I loved this game but when my son broke my cd's of the game I downloaded from GOG but found it's not compatable with Windows 10 which is very disappointing. GOG did refund me to my wallet but I wish I could play the game. There are so few games that interest me so it's a shame when I couldn't play it. GOG please find a patch to fix this and then I can change my rating.
It wouldn't install through Galaxy at all but it worked using the offline download. It then asked for a serial key when I tried to start a game so I went to 'manage installation' --> 'verify / repair' and now it's working fine.
I have to say that I prefered the fixed walkways (and the cute donkey helpers) of the older games. It's not as addictive as Settlers 2, but it's still fun to play.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
