Meh economics, Terrible military

The Nations is a city builder similar to Settlers. You indirectly construct buildings and train of citizens, then those citizens do all the resource production, in hope of providing enough resources to make themselves happy. The problem with the economics is that finding the right balance of what buildings to have is nearly impossible. This is because a happy citizen is a breeding citizen; and those newly bred people will want houses and jobs, but you were already producing enough for everyone and more. This leaves you with loads of unemployed, loads of homeless people, or both. You build houses and give them jobs, but you've just magnified the problem because now they have a home, they will breed too (producing more homeless/jobless). I estimate I had 30% unemployment sometimes. The military system isn't just simple, it is unintelligent and unwieldy. I forgive games like Settlers and Anno for their weak combat because it does the job it set out to do, I would say this does not. Unwieldy - You get soldiers by hiring knights, who come with a group infantry and/or siege units. If a knight dies, then all of their soldiers dies with them. That's a valid system of doing things, and leads you to withdraw if it looks like your knight isn't going to make it. The problem is that bringing the troops back to original strength is more expensive than hiring a new knight and each lost soldier needs to be replaced one at a time. Unintelligent - Here's a real example. To move my troops to off a far coast of the map, I got them on a couple boats and sent them along. Instead of doing the smart thing and staying on board and sailing around the island to where I sent them off the coast, they jumped off the boat at the first chance and walked straight through the enemy until they reached the far coast and waited for the boat to come around for a second pickup. They died before the boat arrived.

Great first impression

Can't say much about it, except that after half an hour of playtime I can say it works great on windows 10 and the music is surprisingly good. Will update the review after I have played more of it.

Can't change the resolution

What I expect from GoG, is to have old games run properly on new systems. So it's very disappointing to see a band-aid fix of locking the resolution to make the game run, and not be able to change the resolution without the proven threat of having the game run poorly or not at all. Under Windows 7 and GeForce GTX 980, the game won't run if I attempt to change the resolution through tools and the troubleshooting option. It will just load forever and then crash.
