A powerful ancient evil has arisen, and the war to save humanity has begun! The Mummy Demastered throws you into a 16-bit-inspired battle against the undead in a 2D, nonlinear, action-packed adventure. As an elite agent in the monster-hunting Prodigium organization, you must use a variety of weapons, upgrades, and mysterious artifacts to defend mankind against the supernatural hordes of Princess Ahmanet. Your Prodigium unit is already on the scene, but HQ lost contact with them hours ago. Only by exploring tombs, forests, abandoned tunnels, and the cursed streets of London will you discover the fate of your allies. But beware - Ahmanet commands legions of undead, insects, plague-ridden vermin, and worse! If you're not careful, you'll be the next soul in her army.
Stunning retro-inspired graphics and atmospheric chiptune soundtrack
Ok, I get why a lot of people see this one as a hidden gem. Great retro 16 bit graphics, fantastic music, responsive game-play. It's a very satisfying metroid-vania. But it really doesn't add anything to the genre. Run and shoot and backtrack and explore, it's everything we are already use too. I love that people say that this game is better than the movie, however, that alone shouldn't make it stand out.
If you love love love metroid-vanias, it is worth a go. But if you are expecting something that rewrites the formula or improves on it, you're better off looking elsewhere as there are a lot better titles out there.
I'm really conflicted about this game. I bought it because I've read a lot of people say that it's a metroid-style game, and that the game was good, different from the movie that was shit. I haven't seen the movie, but I can appreciate the game.
Pros:
- The game looks beautiful, the sprites look great, have good animation.
- The gameplay can be fun for a good part of the game.
- The controls are responsive, and work really well.
Cons:
- Map is INCREDIBLE flawed when you are trying to backtrack. a lot of times I would look at the map, thinking there was just a wall in a corridor, but there was a door there.
- Platforming can be incredible annoying with the knockback (I know there is an item that either reduces or nullify knockback, but I didn't found the item, and I have 94% of the map complete by the end of the game). A lot of the times I just wanted to reach a platform when a bat/rat/spider would fall on me and I would fall all the way down the map.
- The death mechanic isn't implemented very well. When you die, your body rises as an undead, and you need to kill it to recover your items. And, when I say Items, I mean EVERYTHING except scrolls. Weapons, grenades, some relics health upgrades, everything you lose. And when you kill it, it doesn't even give your weapons full ammo, wich can be annoying If you die on a boss (the game autosaves everytime you dies, so no save scumming).
Overall, I had fun with the game, but a lot of the times I would get frustrated with knockback and the map.
PS: I don't know exactly, but some bosses either are immune to certain weapons, or the weapons function like megamen, where the bosses are weak/strong against a specific one.
