Interesting premise, failed potential

Frankly, I'm perplexed to see so many glowing reviews. This game was a chore to play. Sluggish pace and terrible camera transitions are perhaps the worst offenders - the camera angles tend to change suddenly and illogically, making the simple action of moving from point A to B a chore. The conversations can be decently interesting, but usually too long - the protagonist's sedate voice doesn't help and the characters take forever to get to the point. I played through the whole game thinking "this is painful to play, but the story premise is full of potential, I'll see if it gets interesting in the next section". For the most part, it didn't. This game didn't grab me at all, at any point. It felt flaccid and lifeless. I say skip it, life's too short to be playing below-average adventure games. There are so, so many better ones around.

Potentially great but fails to deliver

I really, really hoped this game would be good. It had very good premise but it fails to deliver enjoyable gameplay big time. I will give you minor spoilers to show what level of adventure puzzles there are. At one point you have to buy lunch for your coworker to get access to some terminal. Not only you have no clue why you are in the office (you were supposed to do some work.. maybe? But you cannot interact with your desk), you have also no clue why you need access to this terminal. Nevertheless, you have to leave the office to buy this lunch - but you really can't.. To do so, you have to take couple of days off... to go out and buy lunch.. ok.. whatever... You go, buy that lunch and go back to work (why nobody is bothered that you are back while on vacation is beyond me). You have to heat up lunch.. but microwave is broken.. nobody checked fuses.. and it was unplugged.. Ok.. whatever. You fix that and put lunch inside microwave, set it to 2 minutes and then.. THEN YOU HAVE TO WATCH MICROWAVE FOR 2 MINUTES AS IT HEATS UP THIS LUNCH! Somebody thought this is good idea to stare at motionless microwave for 2 minutes.. great game.. please avoid.

and the story became real

Nice adventure with an interesting serious story that has become real now, almost. Wiretapping internet? Yup. Getting raided because your movents follow a pattern ... check! ... Not so many surprises in today's reality compared to when the game came out. 4/5 stars because something innovative was missing compared to the Deponia series for example. But definitely worth it.

Great, overlooked at release

One of the last original IP call-backs to point'n'click style of games popular in the nineties and carried over to early 21st century, to an extent. A great techno thriller story that mashed together some Orwell, Gibson, Clarke and Dick (future-tech, paranoia, melancholy and tiny bit of space opera). With that in mind, it was carefully constructed to avoid having a staple of dystopia or post-apocalypse, and to rather be a somber thriller in a fairly colourful setting. Mechanically, it's a pointy clicky game with item combination puzzles. Nothing new, nothing broken, so nothing fixed or experimental. One for the fans of a good story progression in games.

Bad gameplay. In an adventure game.

The story is great, if not a little too real. The ending is a little rushed, with little loose-end tying. Some fun can be had from weird translations. However, this game suffers from what I thought was an impossibility for point-and-clicks: bad gameplay. Be it clicking along the bottom of the screen to find the right exact spot that moves your character forward, or microwaving a TV dinner in real time, this game is damn frustrating to play. If you've got something to do off the computer while your character takes five minutes to go down the hall, or a walkthrough on hand so you don't spend five minutes leaving the area before having to immediately return, this game can be a bit of fun. Worth a discount buy for something to kill time, but not a must-own title.
