Description

The latest from veteran developer Con Artist Games, creators of The Last Stand series of games, The Last Stand: Aftermath is an all new, premium singleplayer standalone action adventure rogue-lite. Choose a survivor to set forth and explore the ruins of civilization, finding fuel to travel to new locations and gathering supplies to craft weapons and more.

It's Dangerous Out There

You'll need to stay on your toes, since hordes of zombies still roam the streets, and you're no superhuman. In fact, you're one of the infected yourself, and eventually you'll die, be it from the hostile undead or the virus rampaging through your body. But when that happens, you'll pick up the game again as a new survivor, with perks and upgrades earned based on your progress from the last, and set out to try again.

Features:

  • Sneak and fight your way through a dangerous post-apocalyptic wasteland
  • Outwit hordes of rabid infected, some with deadly special abilities
  • Scavenge for materials to craft into weapons and supplies
  • Risk undeath by using powerful mutations to make yourself stronger
  • When one survivor dies, start up again as another, with new unlocks based on progress
  • A tense and moody, atmospheric zombie experience

Takes long term planning.

Going into this game, you start of with a turitorial after that the real fun starts. It has a feable story behind it which becomes clear as you progress through the different mini maps. The game will require you not only to grind but start planning ahead, your rogue/ scout is on a clock so you have you can't progress like you have all the time in the world. You will also need to get lucky i.m.o. with the route you receive from the r.n.g. The reason why is that you can gain time( spread of the infection), if you can obtain the necessary anti viral as you can only store one on you at all times, getting passes the three maps may become stressful... Graphics are smooth, and there are no bugs that I've encountered so far where the undead move through unseen cracks in the wall. Early game is great, but starting the midgame it becomes tedious to be honest. You truly require patience for this one.

Great game with some issues

You start with a infected character that tries to go as far as he can before he dies or infection takes him. You eventually die and repeat with new character. The game is fun and you feel progress as you advance. As you learn the game you get closer and closer to the end. The game mechanics is more or less ok as is but there is one big issue on my PC, and I see that I'm not alone. When I start the game it just does not start, I get stuck on the loading screen. Nothing helps but eventually after 10-20 attemts it finaly loads. This is the reason for 4 stars.

A fun little game - emphasis on little

The Last Stand: Aftermath is a game focused essentially on very simple mechanics, which is doesn't pad with excess bells and whistles. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Essentially, the game is an isometric exploration slash stealth slash action game, with heavy emphasis on action. Stealth only helps you so far - eventually you'll find yourself slogging it out with the zombies the old fashioned way. Learning the ropes is easy enough, and there's a genuine sense of progression through the game. As you get better, learn what's important to focus on and are able to unlock the various upgrades the game offers (better stats, better starting equipment etc.), progression becomes easier but you'll still get done quickly if you blunder. The infection rate, which is essentially a decreasing health bar that will result in death at some point, feels way too oppressive at first, but can be mitigated through various means as you progress through the game. As a slight con, the maps are not randomly generated, and there are only a few map types per locale. So you'll scour the exact same camps, neighbourhoods and bases time and time again. The game also seems to populate every map in a region with the same (luckily non-regenerating) amount of special zombies. Despite some minor bugs and a few design flaws the game is fun and enjoyable while it lasts. After getting to the end, there's very little replay value. By that time, the game has revealed all of its tricks and becomes pretty repetitive. But the game does what it does well enough. So I'd say this is one for the zombie buffs, and not necessarily a game worth full price. Snag it off a sale and enjoy it as a snack between bigger games.

Great Rouge like survival horror

I like this game a lot. It is very enjoiable if you like the rouge like genre + Survival horror genres. It shares the spririt of the previous games in the series, but haves some nice, more modern top down isometric mechanics. I use mouse and keyboard and found it easy to use even though they reccomend using a controller. A part of me wants to give it a higher rating, but there are some minor bugs, and kinks throughout a playthrough. There are a lot of smaller mechanics that make it feel just a bit bloated, for example, why does the engien of the car break down, if there is no cost to reparing it? Why can I unlock a multitude of classes, when the only influence is what starting items the character has (and only select 3 random picked from the entire pool of classes when starting a new run) You also unlock an arsenal and have options to buy starting items which kind of makes the classes a bit obsolete. Other than that, I like the progression of the game, and the panic I suffer, when I go into an new unexplored area unprepared. I will definately reccoment it to friends who enjoy either Roug like or survival horror genres.

The best zombie game I ever played!

Wow! This game blew me away and drew me in like no other. Totally original. Atmospherics are top notch and the decisions you have to make are time critical and fun. Do I keep going through these draws looking for something good as the zombies close in? Or do I make a break for it and hit the back door? No, too late! zombies banging on that door too now. I got too greedy. Looks like I'll have to jump out of the window quick instead. Outside, I start running but the brain dead neighborhood is waking up. I jump a fence and smash the first zombie with my lead pipe then run to my car. I jump in and boot off down the street hitting another three zombies on the way out.. I'm safe...no wait! I'm running out of fuel....damn! Gotta stop again and start scavenging for fuel. It makes you use your brains to avoid the braindead swarm that surrounds you. In the end, I got stuck on a boss fight and died too many times to keep playing. I'd definitely play this game again some time in the future. Tight as f***. Can't wait for the sequel.
