You are a highly qualified, sharp-witted astrobiologist named Yasna. Being entangled in a space race, you and your crew end up on the unexplored planet Regis III. The scientific journey quickly turns into a search mission for lost crewmates. Follow its trail, but be fully aware that every decision you make can bring you closer to danger.
On her journey, Yasna will face decisions that will shape the outcome of the story. Help her make difficult choices and witness one of 11 possible endings to the deeply philosophical story.
Discover fragments of what’s lost and report to your Astrogator. Let his voice aid you during hard times when humanity’s greatest threat emerges. The latter will force you to rethink mankind’s ambitions and biases. Go on - make decisions, follow the mystery… but remember not to underestimate the brutal simplicity and brilliance of evolution.
Robots, people… Choose whether to interact with different creatures on Regis III or how to do it. Friend, companion? Enemy? You never suspected what these words might really mean before you got here.
Immerse yourself in the atompunk atmosphere by using various tools, such as a telemeter or a tracker, and drive a vehicle through a stunning landscape. Experience realistic interactions with analogue technologies in a retro futuristic timeline.
The Invincible is a first-person game based on the motifs of The Invincible - an iconic novel of the world-known, hard science-fiction author and Polish futurologist Stanisław Lem.
There are places like Regis III, not prepared for us and for which we are not prepared for. Still, our spacecraft inevitably comes closer to the destination - for our stories and fates to cross in a dead spot.
Stanislas Lem - Never read his novels but loved the game
I have never been a big book reader; but I have read many old sci-fi novels in my life (to the end ;) and imo they are the best, and this story is great ! no spoilers but I went along with this game, it's slow paced and beautiful but oh boy I died in a way only my craziest nighmares could come up with ! still getting over it, and the game has many outcomes, I just I have to go back and change my futur, but another day ;)
The Invincible is one of my best gaming experience. Game hold you close, don't let go and dive you into intense and immersive landscape exploration of unknown planet Regis III. Basically 7h entertainment, but different endings can provide 17h (it's worthy, at least for me, gave real chills :))
Gameplay focus on walking simulator with linear, detective plot (with some forks) and natural, science oriented dialogues between main character Yasna and Astrogator Novik who lead expedition from safe orbit.
Atompunk aesthetic is perfectly balanced with small details and subtle but sometimes powerful music. Plot is adaptation of classic book of polish futurologist, Stanisław Lem, who is legend when it comes to SF genre.
The game looks absolutely stunning. Often I had to just stop and look at the sky, the mountains or the ocean. The art direction in general is awesome with it´s retro scifi aesthetics. Yes, it´s mostly a walking simulator but one with an exceptionally tense and well-paced story. I finished the game in about 8 hours. That was for one endung, but I read that there are are 11 endings that you can reach if you are a completionist. For me this playthrough was perfectly satisfying though.
I read Lem´s novel shortly befor I played the game and I was pleasently surprised that the game doesn´t retells the novel but tells what happened on REGIS III from another characters perspective. In doing so it cleverly undermined my expectations that I had because I knew the novel and it added to my experience from the book.
I´ll definitely keep looking out for what this studio´s next projects.
If you love Lem's book or feel of 50 and 60 SF retro future you will love this game. It is a compeling story of what might happen before events form the Invincible written in a similar, solwer, pace. Not for every one but it feels like reading a book
