THE DRAGON'S LEGACY

The world of Nimoa is as beautiful as the morning dew, but only at first glance. Under the surface of hills and fertile valleys lurks an old and eternal evil. Living as a mould, stretching threads through an infected area like deadly toadstools. The center of this "being?" deep in the under world is the giant daemon, Skarborr.

GAMEPLAY

You, the player, take the role of the young, inexperienced dragon. In the role of the savior of Nimoa you move through the skies and faces all the challenges of the evil Skarborr. At the beginning of the game the player has the choice of three dragons: Annoth The Fire Breather, Barroth the magician and Morrogh The Necromancer. All three are different and all three have their own ways of dealing with the great many adversaries you will meet. You also develop the dragon's combat abilities throughout the game to deal with the increasingly tough and resilient enemies, until you meet and conquer Skarborr himself.

That is not all, you will also need to control other characters and complete important tasks on the path to overall victory: a warlord and his steed on a potentially fatal fact finding mission, the thoroughly competent hunter on a mission of delicate accuracy and selective killing and the three huge creatures and their riders in an attempt to destroy magical generators keeping the dragons away from the next big fight.

Through 12 enormous and differing geographical areas the task is not only to hunt and destroy despicable monsters, but to build, maintain and defend human settlements. A dragon's individual character, breathtakingly fluid graphics and addictively exhausting aerial combat bring you many hours of sometimes sweat generating gameplay.

You will also fall under the spell of "The I of the Dragon" with its mystical atmosphere, impressive sunrises and colorful but ominous sunsets, for who knows what the night will bring.

FEATURES

Not an action game, but interesting

It mixes elements of RPG and strategy game. It's not an action game- your dragon moves slowly, casting spells and using abilities takes time. Agile flying while dodging enemy attacks is not a name of this game. Best approach is usually slow and steady- inflict damage, retreat, heal up, repeat. Gameplay becomes more and more slow and repeatable with time, it may bore some people. In exchange you get interesting third person strategy, and satisfying RPG elements. Later in game, you unlock much more powerful abilities, that gives you feeling of power. Game also features few missions, where you control a land unit instead of your dragon- just skip them with cheat codes, they are awful.

Reconsider your choice.

I'm not gonna lie, the idea of trying an old game where you get to play as a dragon trying to save the land is a neat one, but my god is this game not very good. magic either falls off or is very effective for the zone, necromancer is honestly the worst of the dragon choices and the human missions shouldn't exist to be honest. The the final one here being the worst of the cases with this game for me, fun up until you hit that spike and then have to deal with the human objectives which the one with the hunter and the mages made me quit. My hours in this were not worth it and i ask that you please reconsider picking this game up. If you decide to instead try and play it, good on you for making your own choice on this matter, but there are other games with dragons you can play if you're just here for that. All i ask is that you look up a review of the game and gameplay instead of just going in blind like me.

Sentimental 4-star but in true average 3

For me, it’s a sentimental 4-star game from my childhood. But honestly, the game is just an average 3-star title from a magazine. The graphics are pretty good for 2004, but the engine has issues with framerate drops when many enemies are shooting at you or when fire is being thrown at you (particle effects). The controls are old, but you can get used to them. The story is poor, very linear, and just a backdrop for killing monsters. The scaling of enemies causes the game to become annoying on difficulty level 4 and above, and you don’t feel the power of your dragon. The music has its moments (like the menu theme), but most of the time it’s just electronic filler during gameplay. The gameplay becomes a bit boring and repetitive after a few hours: destroying a few nests, building a city, trying to hold it, developing it to a higher level, and then destroying the rest of the nests. There are also parts of the gameplay where you play as different characters besides the dragon, and in those parts, the game is not very well designed. The game only crashed to the desktop for me once, at the very beginning. After that, I didn’t experience many minor bugs or technical problems—GOG Team did a good job. :)

Old love..

I was playing this game in two phases... First I was playing demo, when it was released - and it was great, fun, innovate and rich. For some reasons I was not able to buy it that time. But it was on my list of games to buy. Some time ago, I dont know when exactly, but i must say it was about 8-10 years after I played demo, a found it in some second hand shop (or somwhere else - dont remember where, but it not matters now). And that day I was again plaing it on new computer, and still got fun time. Ok sometimes graphics was bad or better say: got old in the bad way. Artefacts, glitches etc. But I still got a lot of fun from playing it. The box with it still stands between my most loved games...

Massive Nostalgia... and Dragons!

Loved the heck out of this game when I was a kid (you didn't fight the dragon, you freaking ARE THE DRAGON!) The only minus (in my opinion) is the wonky aiming. If it weren't for that, this game would get a full score from me!
