THE DRAGON'S LEGACY

The world of Nimoa is as beautiful as the morning dew, but only at first glance. Under the surface of hills and fertile valleys lurks an old and eternal evil. Living as a mould, stretching threads through an infected area like deadly toadstools. The center of this "being?" deep in the under world is the giant daemon, Skarborr.

GAMEPLAY

You, the player, take the role of the young, inexperienced dragon. In the role of the savior of Nimoa you move through the skies and faces all the challenges of the evil Skarborr. At the beginning of the game the player has the choice of three dragons: Annoth The Fire Breather, Barroth the magician and Morrogh The Necromancer. All three are different and all three have their own ways of dealing with the great many adversaries you will meet. You also develop the dragon's combat abilities throughout the game to deal with the increasingly tough and resilient enemies, until you meet and conquer Skarborr himself.

That is not all, you will also need to control other characters and complete important tasks on the path to overall victory: a warlord and his steed on a potentially fatal fact finding mission, the thoroughly competent hunter on a mission of delicate accuracy and selective killing and the three huge creatures and their riders in an attempt to destroy magical generators keeping the dragons away from the next big fight.

Through 12 enormous and differing geographical areas the task is not only to hunt and destroy despicable monsters, but to build, maintain and defend human settlements. A dragon's individual character, breathtakingly fluid graphics and addictively exhausting aerial combat bring you many hours of sometimes sweat generating gameplay.

You will also fall under the spell of "The I of the Dragon" with its mystical atmosphere, impressive sunrises and colorful but ominous sunsets, for who knows what the night will bring.

FEATURES

  • A choice of three dragons each with its own abilities, based on fire, ice and acid, developing either into a battle, wizard or sniper dragon. There are no limits to the possibilities
  • 12 unique territories representing various geographical areas: mountains desserts, forests and savanna etc. Each map has over 10 square kilometers to cover
  • More than 60 spells with special effects available to each dragon
  • Real time Terra-Forming allows complete mountain ranges disappear and reappear in another location
  • Static and real-time lighting ensure the correct lighting conditions to every day and night cycle
  • Fascinating sunsets and a night sky full of stars await you
  • The Time Control-Option makes it possible to adjust "The I of The Dragon" to your own speed
  • Slow motion mode with a fascinating effect

Surprisingly great/fun...

ever since this game showed up on GOG, i was curious... the videos werent really all that helpful with providing an understandin of what this game was, and how it played. come to find out(after taking the plundge) its a realtime with pause rts/action/adventure game. I am a huuuuge fan of anygame that has realtime with pause. I just find it waaay more relaxing and easy to get into a game that let's you pause the action and plan accordingly, adjusting your plans as they playout. this game is a little simpler than others in the same category like and old school crpgs or jagged alliance back in action... but it still has a degree of depth with stat upgrades and an ever growing spellbook. The controls are simple and fantastic, pretty much all mouse based like the other mentioned games. I will say that the dragon's pathfinding can be a bit jank(getting stuck on elevated terrain because the dragon tried to fly through it...? thats easily fixed by moving the dragon out of the way of said terrain when it happens. also, this game allows not only for realtime with pause, but a speed slider which allows you to slow the speed of the game down allowing you to plan on the fly easier(or just avoid attacks easier). all in all, a 100% total recommened to anyone looking for a fun point and click dragon action game. for me it's a fun, chill and addictive experience just to be clear... but I can see for others it could be intense.

Cool dragons, but it get repetative

Want to play as a dragon? Great. You can pick from 3 dragons - 1 fire: good for raw power, but has few spells initially, 2 ice: many spells and fast, but weak initially, 3 necromancer: good regeneration, can summon pets (most are useless), a stable solid build with initially low flight speed. You can pick new spells as they unlock and/or upgrade you stats for more power to your breath attacks, regeneration, mana inflow, flight speed and more. However, given you'll mostly be flying around and killing mosters, demolishing their lairs and gathering energy from slain foes to build and upgrade towns, the game can get repetative with the same cycle of bash lairs, slay monsters, upgrade town and occasionally complete a special objective or boss. Another issue is the tiny minimap with dots for mosters and their lairs - you will get a spell to detect lairs fairly early, but it might be difficult to make out where the minimap says a lair or monster is if you have poor vision. The good news is that GOG has cloud saves for the game and they fixed some issues that the original release of the game had. I'd reccomend shortish play session to avoid being jaded by the repetition.

Perfection

I wanted to play this as a kid, but I haven't a good computer back in 2004, which can run it. So 18 years later I just bought on GOG! (Only the GOG version is playable, all other versions have a game breaking bug!) What should I say? It's so good! The game is beautiful (especially in 1920x1080), the music is well made, the gameplay is challenging! You play as a good dragon, helping for the humans in hard times, when hellish creatures swarming the lands. You can choose from 3 different dragons: then explore the realm, defeat monsters and lairs, collect crystals from lairs, upgrade your dragon, learn spells, build towns, upgrade and protect towns... often go back to previously conquered lands to protect the besieged towns! Let's say, The I of the Dragon is an Action game-RTS hybrid. The controls are hard to learn, but worth it! Plus, you can change the game speed, from 0% to 200%! You can play the game in your own tempo. I am happy with this game, give it a try!

Niche, but very nice.

If you're really into this odd mix of shooter and rpg, this is a gem and I was glad to find GOG had it after I long ago misplaced the CD version I had. It's slow early, a lot of players are going to get frustrated by the "clunky" feel of early areas, but as you progress and upgrade it gets much smoother. The early frustrations are a feature, not a bug, because this character does really grow with you in terms of speed, firepower, and magical combat. Yes, there are some levels that ramp up the difficulty, but that's typical of older games. This game might act like it is going to hold your hand, but surprise! Nope, you get blasted from the sky. So yeah, not everyone's dish, but it is mine. I love this game.

Good old game

Loved this game as a kid. Loved replaying it now. Spent last few weeks finishing the game for all three dragons. Special thanks to GOG for making it possible to run this gem on win 10.
