Enjoyed the mod?
If you liked the mod, you’re going to love the stand-alone game. We've taken the best elements of the mod, re-written the script, which is now more than twice the length of the original at 80,000+ words, and added plenty of exciting new twists, endings, and surprises. Walk the streets of a brand new city. Get to know re-imagined characters. Solve challenging new puzzles with new gameplay mechanics, and enjoy an all-new orchestral score and professional voice acting. This is the story we always wanted to tell, for you to enjoy all over again - and again.
The Forgotten City may have evolved from a mod for an action RPG, but like the mod, this game is in a totally different genre. It’s a mystery adventure game, developed by a core team of three people. If you don’t go into this expecting a Triple-A action RPG, you’ll have a much better time!
This was a mod in skyrim first, then this standalone game second.
They are similar in concept, but feel vastly different!
Either way, this is a great game, well worth buying!
Music is good, environments are impressive looking, gameplay is solid, storytelling is epic!
The ONLY thing I can complain about... is that you cannot rebind the weapon switch keys on mouse & keyboard mode.
It will always be mousewheel up or down; not terrible or anything.
As I guess many of you know, this story was available as a Skyrim mod.
I loved it, and I purchased the game only as support for the devs.
So, go play it for free as a mod, play it by buying it here, regardless, fun stuff.
I came to this without knowing its history as a Skyrim mod, and tried to avoid as many spoilers as possible.
The premise is that you're caught in a time-loop, trying to get everything to line up perfectly to be able to break the cycle. Essentially, it's an adventure game with a pretty small amount of FPS; in fact, it would work perfectly as a 2D point-and-click game too.
Pros:
- The scenery is beautifully done, especially for a small team
- The puzzles all make sense; there is no need to consult a walkthrough ever
- The characters are all different; they have different motives, personalities, secrets
- There's some moral challenge, without it being preachy
- The choices you make affect the ending
Cons:
- Unreal Engine and its shader compilation stutter can be annoying
- The reveal at the end is a bit corny
Totally recommended. Support the devs and the DRM-free release on GOG.
One of the best stories that I've ever seen in any video game ever, and the characters are very well made, and the dialogue is very very very well thought out, which makes the characters very believable and keeps me (the player) very engaged with all their stories.
You play a person, who finds themselves in an ancient, and seemingly forgotten, Roman city. This is filled with information about actual ancient culture. Your choices do not always have very real consequences, because of an in-game element. There are well-thoughtout mechanisms that keep game play moving forward. There are indeed many plot twists. Most of all, I enjoyed the philosophical discussions, which are sometimes in disguise.
Overall, this is an intricate, thought-provoking, and entertaining game!
By the way, the sex you choose does have minor, somewhat subtle, but understandable, effects on game-play.
