The Flame in the Flood

While I can see why some people would not be into this kind of game, I personally found it really engaging. It scratches a particular itch incredibly well and doesn't out stay it's welcome. You have to make sure your character doesn't starve or freeze to death like in all survivial type games, but on a top of that you have a minimalist crafting system. Your inventory will be twenty odd items instead of hundreds, and items can be crafted with small quantities which takes away a lot of the annoyance that you can experience when there's too much micro-management. This is a game that oozes charm as well, inbetween 'levels' you're drifting down a river on a makeshift raft and occasionally you hear country music recorded by a close friend of the devs. I'm by no means a fan of most country music, but it's hard not to have a smile on your face when those type of moments happen. Later on in the game however things can get a little bit samey; it would have been nice to have a bit more variation in the environment as well as some other aspects. (the ending is good enough to make up for it though) But even with these small flaws, I can still safely recommend this for most people. I'd definitely take a gamble on this when it's on sale if you're currently on the fence.

I like this game is relaxing despite the difficulty, I recommend it, not big requirements to play it

I bought this game for about 2.5€ and I still honestly feel like my money was entirely and utterly wasted. For starters, you can't change the controls. AT ALL. Yeah, not even kidding! A PC GAME IN WHICH YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE FLIPPIN' CONTROLS! Let that steaming pile of insults to gaming sink. Adding to that, there's no tutorial in the game, just a few signposts saying stuff like "Hey, maybe you should drink water to not die of thirst" and "You can use a raft to go down the river". Gee willickers, how helpful of ya to mention that! And sadly, I'm not exaggerating the vagueness AT ALL. The mechanics of this "game" are insultingly poorly thought out and even more poorly explained. The notion of survival in games is nowhere near new, so how can there still be developers that completely bollocks it up this bad? I've played dozens of survival games of varying levels of quality and entertainment, and to date, this is quite possibly the worst of them all, or at the very least one of the absolutely worst. The graphics are murky and unclear even at the highest settings so it's often obnoxiously difficult to distinguish what you can interact with and what you can't. The randomness of the game basically means you're rolling a bloody die to see if you can survive or not, unlike in games such as, say... Subnautica or Green Hell, where survival depends solely on SKILL, not RNG-based dumb luck. Unless you luck out like a leprechaun on a four clover diet, you WILL die early on to a freakin' BOAR, simply because you couldn't find the 15 components necessary to make a bow + arrows in the 2-3 locations you've visited before having to put up with that unrealistically hyper-aggressive porkchop. I thought the low price would make me less hateful of the game in the end, but really, I should've seen the price-tag for what it really was: A warning. A big fat "Here there be buggy and awfully poorly developed dragons" sign, pointing out just how tedious and frustrating the game truly is.

Just a terrible game because it's completely broken. I couldn't craft many items. Most of the items are required to survive. I couldn't craft penicillin. It kept stating there wasn't any room in my inventory. I eventually dropped everything except the mold and I still couldn't craft it because I still didn't have room in my inventory. So I died from an infection from ant bites. Absolute b u l l s h i t!

Connected controller somehow prevents keyboard+mouse from doing whatever they should be doing...
