From the Art Director of BioShock and a team of veterans of the BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band series comes The Flame in the Flood.
If I didn't have spotify I would buy this game just for the soundtrack. Game is also good but once I finished it wasn't that keen on replaying. Great while it lasted.
Veteran survival/rogue-lite players will probably not find this game too challenging. The crafting and mechanics are straight-forward and satisfying, but not too deep. You do not have to go all the way up the "tech tree" to prevail. The hardest part of the game is learning how to raft correctly.
But the charm of it all is undeniable: the art, the music, the theme and story, the way that the protagonist gently strokes the dog's face after docking, and yes, the rafting too!
Put it all together and you have a game that is *relaxing* to play, yet still engaging. This is not the best survival nor rogue-lite game that you will ever play, but it is definitely a worthwhile addition to your library.
I wonder how far I'll get in Endless Mode...
It took me 10 hours to beat the game and I can say that I enjoyed the experience. There are some annoying flaws and lazy design choices, but they don't spoil the gameplay imo. It's quite simple at default setting, gonna try the harder setting as well, which should provide another 8 hours of gameplay.
There's no tutorial whatsoever, so you've got to figure things on your own, which is not that hard. The game encourages trial and error approach.
Can recommended it, but only on sale.
I liked the overall concept of the game and gave it a chance since it was in my Game Pass plan for free (it's in my wishlist here on GOG).
The plot is simple, the game is all around survival gameplay mechanics, but in a more convincing way than most of the games of the same thematic. Hunting, crafting and savaging things are enjoyable for most of the game. The soundtrack is very nice. And the end makes everything you played through worthy.
This is one the most surprising games that I've played in a long time. I was initially hesitant to buy this game, because I couldn't quite get an idea of what it was all about from the trailer, but once I made the decision to buy it I was instantly addicted. This is an absolutely fabulous survival game! I will say that it does get a little repetitive over time, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've actually put nearly 100 hours into this game, and I'm always drawn back into it after going long periods without playing it. The crafting system is top notch, and the enemies in the game are genuinely scary (especially the bear). The only thing I would suggest to the developers is to make more enemies (African animals would be awesome!), create more environments (or areas), add more raft upgrades, and add more rewards and achievements for continued gameplay. Trust me when I say you have to play this game!
