Worth it on sale

If you like Bethesda style games this one will not let you down but remember this is a survival horror game so the devs gimp you in ways to make it artificially harder, mainly limited ammo and laughable running limitations (all up gradable but still limited) also the camera view / control are a little awkward until you get used to it (use Flawless Widescreen for a much better experience) . Graphics are great and ran fine on a i5-3.4ghz / 8 gig / Nvidia 1660 / SSD, just remember to do the cache file trick found on pcgamingwiki. Also if you enable the console there are many commands that will allow you to enhance your game play in many ways and finally ReShade allowed me to really brighten things up and make it shine without any cost to FPS.

If you like RE4 you'll probably like it

the weapons are cool and impactful, the puzzles are not that hard, it is supposed to be a horror game, but you rarely run out of ammo if you aim for the head, some of the bosses are a real pain in the ass, but atleast there's not a boss that is just 15 QTEs in a row so it is better than re4 in that regard, the story is not bad, but is the usual megacorp shenanigans (ie, megacorp does some stupid mistake because their scientist lack any kind of foresight) and the game is very stingy whenn it comes to give you some lore, which leaves the characters without any kind of progression I only played The assignment and the coonsequences dlcs, they are not fun at all, stealth is the weakest part of this game and those missions are 99.9% stealth, my game crashed during the last boss of the consequences and I'm done with this game Good enough as an RE4 clone, but nothing that will blow out your mind, 3,7/5 in my subjective fun scale

Flawed & Challenging Survival Horror

I have spend over 100 hours playing this game on various platforms, with my Steam account currently showing 80 hours alone. This game is long, often difficult and sometimes a little bit frustrating, but most importantly it is extremely fun. The whole experience plays like a "best of" selection of known horror games. - Abandoned mansions, factories and hospitals like in classic Resident Evil games. - Bizarre villages and castles straight out of Resident Evil 4. - Mind bending visuals, changing environment, hellish alternate world like in Silent Hill. - Intense chase sequences, stealth sequences, there is even a short on rails segment. - The boss battles are absolutely amazing and terrifying (my favorite is one near the end of the game, that was clearly inspired by The Faculty). - The DLCs (namely The Assignment & The Consequence) are worth every penny and are better, more focused experiences. What might turn some people off is the fact, that the story is really about the villain and not the main protagonist. There is no emotional attachment to Sebastian (which was fixed in an equally fantastic second game), the whole game is about navigating the mind and story of the main villain. All in all, this is an excellent modern survival horror game and worth every penny.

Japanese cliche

If you didn't know the people behind this game are from the east, you will quickly without any doubt. You start the game driving a car with a police squad that could only be described as "how Japanese think a cool squad would look in America" including a policeman who wears gloves (no idea why this trope exists everywhere in anime). Then 5 minutes in you see a teleporting assassin killing people with a knife.while being immune to bullets. But ok, let's say you do like anime and such, is the game any good? Well, it's average. The setting makes no sense and there are few logical steps setting it up. The leveling system takes you out of the game. The first 2 hours are horror and sneaking. Then you find a gun and the game becomes more of an action shooter. You farm items to level up. I'm sure some anime fan thinks all of the nonsense that's happening makes perfect sense and the game is an elaborate allegory on the mains characters and their problems but really we need to stop relying on the fact Silent Hill 1/2 was a God of horrors back on PS2 where random spouting of bullshit was a sort of personal event for gamers. All that being said put of frustration, the game is not bad. Just bland, cliche and quite boring. If you like horrors or action some other game probably does this better. But this will do in pinch of on sale.

For People Who Love Shinji Mikami

If you only like Resident Evil 4, this is not for you. But if you like all of Mikami's past works this is a homage to himself and a masterpiece of survival horror! One of my favorite games on GOG.com!
