Full version of The Darkest Tales is coming soon! You can wishlist it here

Join a stuffed bear named Teddy on this gloomy and sinister adventure to rescue his owner, Alicia, from the realm of dreams and distorted childhood fantasies. Who else will fight for the life of the girl, now grown-up, if not her long-forgotten and dusty toy?

The Darkest Tales - Into the Nightmare is a free-to-play prologue, bringing players into the first two chapters of Teddy and Lighty’s journey across this familiar yet twisted world. Are you ready to leave your dusty old toy box and finally take on a real challenge? Do you have what it takes to hack, slash, and dash your way through hostile lands crawling with deadly traps and bloodthirsty monsters? If yes, then turn the page and immerse yourself in The Darkest Tales.

Happily Never After
You’ll meet familiar characters from your childhood, but the reunion isn’t likely to be a happy one. The gingerbread men are out for blood, Sleeping Beauty seems to be a couple centuries behind on sleep, and the Little Mermaid looks more like a sea witch than an innocent child of the waves.

Teddy Scissorpaws
As it turns out, our hero is a jack-of-all-trades. He crafted a bow and melee weapons from a pair of scissors and uses needles as powerful arrows and grappling hooks. All’s fair in a fight against the forces of evil.

Ahead lies only darkness
Each level takes place in a recognizable, but distorted fairytale world rife with combat, obstacles, and secrets. On this journey you will gain experience, master and branch out your skills, and overcome a multitude of challenges — from fighting blood-thirsty rubber duckies to exploring the giants’ castle in the clouds.

The Darkest Tales is a game with deep and mysterious lore. As you progress and defeat monsters, you’ll unveil the mysteries of this nightmarish world. How will this tale end? It’s up to you to decide.

Below average... for now.

First things first, the art design and presentation is great. The story and setting is intriguing and the atmospheric sound design is also good, however the voice acting is only meh and the voices don't really fit the characters, at least in my ears. Also the conversation between the 2 protagonists is pretty much nothing but a sarcastic fist fight and it's a bit tiring after a while. Now for the most important part, the gameplay and... it's not good. The movement itself is fine, although it doesn't feel quite natural. It's a bit too light, agile and fast for a stuff bear in armor, a bit of weight behind his jumps and attacks would solve that. Here's my biggest gripe though, the combat. You only have one attack option and your range is quite short, every touch of the enemy, even if it wasn't an actual attack, for example jumping on the wolf's back, hurts and there's no dodge roll or double jump which makes the combat feel very clunky and not well put together. I really hope the developer can improve the game and I'll definetely keep my eye on it, even though I couldn't bear to finish the demo, but because the premise is very interesting.

Great set and story but...

I love the story, the set, the visuals and the music. However I don't like the combat system, just jump and hit. Nothing more. Also is silly that boss can damage you by just being collided (touched) by him not only when uses weapons.

Not bad but a "samey" feeling...

I played the demo for one hour and got the following impressions. Pros: - Nice setting and visual style. - Reasonably smooth gameplay (although a little bit "floaty"). Cons: - Verbose game mainly made of sarcastic exchanges between the two main characters (a little bit boring). - In most of the situations (so far), enemies and traps are gone after your death reducing the stake of dying (tried on medium, it may be different on hard). But my main gripe is the feeling to already have played this game before. For instance, I gave up when I had to climb a vine that ended being the tongue of an enemy plant. Identical to the one you face in Rayman Legends if I remember correctly. If you haven't played a platformer in a long time go for Rayman Origins first (too bad Legends is not available here). If you did and are still in need of some platforming, you can do a lot worse than this game but be prepared for some deja-vu feeling.

Horrible

can’t even get past the tutorial because the jumping sucks and that little light that I’m supposed to follow is annoying AF.

Great Demo

A teddy bear, dual wielding scissors, with attitude. What more could I want? Oh, right. A nightmarish imagined (or rather, dreamed) landscape to traverse with inhabitants to match. A tiny hero with a big quest to rescue his owner. It's challenging, to a degree, and the artwork is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the demo and will definitely get the full game. I'm curious to see what other dark and twisted characters inhabit this dream. I mean- nightmare.
