In Andergast, whose inhabitants are considered to be notoriously superstitious, King Efferdan awaits a state visit from high-ranking dignitaries. For centuries the kingdom has been at odds with neighboring Nostria, but now first steps are being undertaken toward a lasting peace. But a plague of crows troubles the king, for the birds are acting with unusual aggressiveness, even attacking humans. Moreover, there are those among the citizens of Andergast who swear that the crows are bringing them dark nightmares. As the belligerent creatures infiltrate even the castle itself, the king seeks a skilled bird catcher - an opportunity for young Geron to prove that the reputation for ill luck that has followed him since childhood is undeserved. Following an audience with the king, the prestigious task is assigned to him. However, not only does his task prove unexpectedly difficult, but it also turns out to be the first step of the greatest adventure of his life, which will lead him to the borders of the charted lands of Aventuria and beyond.
With a history of more than 25 years, The Dark Eye is one of Europe's best-known role-playing brands. In addition to the popular pen & paper adventures, TDE has also inspired a series of successful computer games. The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav takes you deep into the world of Aventuria, where you’ll take on the role of young Geron and get caught up in a mysterious plot that threatens to wipe out the kingdom of Andergast, a back-water realm in the northwest of Aventuria.
Experience the world of The Dark Eye as a classic point-and-click adventure!
A breathtaking art style that shows every nuance of Aventuria.
Solve a variety of side quests each with different paths towards a solution.
Decent adventure game. Stunning graphics, and the art-style is great as well. I think the main characters were on the dull side, and a lot of the puzzles dragged out needlessly long. Some illogical ones as well. The music and voice acting was decent enough as well. Ea
3/5. Well worth the playthrough.
The most enjoyable gaming experience I have ever had.
The Characters are interesting, the puzzles are genius, and the story is enthralling.
I wish there were more quality PAC games out there.
I cannot find anything even REMOTELY as good as this masterpiece.
Memoria was good as well, but the vision puzzles were a bit annoying.
It's been a while since the last time I played a proper P&C game and this one has been on my pile of shame for way too long. Chains of Satinav has a pretty interesting atmosphere, starting off quite light-hearted but turns really grim and dark towards the end. While I liked most about the game - especially the art-style, the intriguing story and some fresh gameplay elements - I wasn't too keen on some puzzles, as they required some serious out of the box thinking (e.g. the fairy world). And since this was my first P&C game in years, I ran into quite a few frustrating dead ends. But that's just me. I'm sure other people love those puzzles.
Another gripe I have concerns the main character. It feels like there is barely any character development and his whiny demeanor doesn't make it easy to root for him (Note: They voice-acting got a lot better in Memoria). Anyways, playing this made me rediscover my love for P&C games and that's definitely a good thing :)
This game was my introduction into the world of "The Dark Eye", but given the fact that I love fantasy worlds, I was instantly drawn to the premise of the game.
Visually, the game is very appealing, each different frame is handcrafted and full of detail. I admit some of the animations are rather stiff, but nothing too dramatic.
The story was interesting. Like it was stated in some of the previous reviews, the game starts more lightheartedly and it turns darker towards the second half of the game. I found it a little hard to sympathize with the protagonist - Geron. Based on his life experiences, I can understand why he has the attitude of being alone against the whole world, but even after managing to overcome numerous difficult situations, he was still all about doom and gloom. I did not feel that there was much character development regarding him. On the other hand, his companion, Nuri was the absolute opposite. With her charming and somewhat naive approach to each situation I found her to be absolutely adorable.
Gameplaywise the game was fun. I enjoyed the puzzles. I can tell you from personal experience that if you play with the help functions turned off, there is a decent amount of pixel hunting that you will have to do and sometimes your progress will entirely depend on finding the next vital interaction point. But I found the puzzles to be logical, maybe with a few exceptions that required out of the box thinking, but with some trial and error here and there, that can be overcome.
The voice-acting and the soundtrack were decent, no complaints there.
I found the ending to be a bit abrupt, but the story continues in "Memoria".
Overall, it was a solid point-and-click adventure game and I definitely recommend it, especially if you can get it on sale.
The the hand draw art is quite nice. Music and voice acting are good.
It tells a typical fantasy story. It is the quest of the hero for saving the world with a few
bitter sweet moments moments here and a few dark twists there. Interesting but not mind blowing.
The puzzles are mostly fair and logical. Pressing the space bar you can see all interactive elements in the scene. I did had to peep a guide twice on account of not doing certain interactions in the expected order.
