Brutal Doom but good?
Hot take/jokes aside, The Citadel is the first boomer shooter that I played to the end. - It's quirky, it's brutal, the story and lore is mystical and strange (also the translation), the gameplay is mostly 'tough but fair'. The artstyle has this 90s scifi anime thing going on, with rugged industrial designs and stark, painted metal corridors. And you play as a waifu in a skimpy skinsuit. It's definitely not for everyone, but I loved this. Some issues are the lack of environmental variety, it's all in this floating cube world? The same goes for the enemies. Some bosses have blind-spots where you can just blast them until they die. You can also cheese the economy: upgrades are permanent, but when you die you get back the money spent on them. The sequel, Beyond: The Citadel, is much better in these aspects, albeit only available on Steam. Be aware that it runs a bit strangely, as this 2.5D-style boomer shooter runs on UE4. It's fine, but I did get some strange performance hiccups. Pick it up on a sale!
