Susan Ashworth, known in her neighbourhood as the crazy Cat Lady, is a lonely 40-
year old on the verge of suicide. She has no family, no friends and no hope for a
better future. One day she discovers that five strangers will come along and change everything. But those five, "The Parasites", are also the most ruthless, deranged and cold-blooded bunch of psychopaths the city has ever known. They will stop at nothing to hurt Susan. Unless, she hurts them first...
Susan's few weeks journey doesn't take her across the world and won't turn her into a
hero. She has little faith in others and hardly even cares about herself. She can't fight
and has never fired a gun in her life. But she's hanging onto that thin thread of hope, that in the end, as promised, there's an elusive reward waiting for her. Something worth trying for. Something that'll help her find an unlikely friend. Something that'll give her life a purpose. Susan's journey takes her on a roller-coaster ride between the world of the living and the world of the dead, where the only way to survive is to overcome her biggest weakness: her own self.

I've played a lot of adventure games, and it's pretty rare for me to stumble across one that makes me feel apathy because of bad storytelling and gameplay. Maybe this could be a neat movie or novel, but as a game it fails miserably because none of the characters are trustworthy and because the game gives the player no reason to care about anything of what's going on.
Also the game crashes when switching windows. I lost all of my progress once due to this, and there doesn't appear to be a way to skip the lengthy cutscenes either. Why did I not save the game sooner? Because I was trying to figure out how to do so when the game crashed...
Let me tell you a story. It was not long ago that I got my wisdom teeth out and was homebound but during this period GoG was running a "5 games for 80% off sale!" Deal. Being unable to leave my house I snatched up 3 games I wanted and 2 just for the sake up for sale, this was one of those 2 games. After trying the other 4 I finally clicked the icon for The Cat Lady and was launched head first into a world of depression, sadness, intrigue, and confusion. After a couple hours, I sat there completely satisfied at the ending saying to myself "This may just be my game of the year". In short, this game is fantastic, I don't care if you hate the genre because the story is just...wow. A must buy for anyone who has a pulse and a credit card.
The story was very good, the art is good, the music is good, but especially at the beginning I thought the game had hung because nothing was happening.... eventually something would happen.... a lot of very slow walking.... eventually something would happen again.... The game never did hang and the music, dialogue and action seemed to be in sync, but walking around was SO slow. I played it on an oldish little Acer notebook, so maybe that was the problem, but have played lots of other GOG games on this computer that are surely more demanding in terms of memory and the characters could actually trot along in those.
ANYWAY, I would give this 5 stars if not for the speed issue, and I wouldn't even want it to be that much faster, as a slow pace helps give it atmosphere and suspense. I really ended up caring about the characters and worrying about the cats. The puzzles aren't really hard but because of the speed at which I was getting around, I did refer to a walkthrough a couple of times just because I wanted to find out what would happen next without staying up all night and missing work the next day.
It has an amazing story and an amazing script, but oh my god how bad the execution is. I cannot recommend this game, only MAYBE at a sale for like $1.
Avoid.
