The Case of the Golden Idol

Simple premise but get quite complex. Great atmosphere and music, it feels very rewarding to solve the cases.

Really good game. Pulls you in. There's an overreaching story that nicely comes together at the end. Medium difficulty - nothing had me stumped completely, but some scenes required a decent amount of thought. Can be finished in two-three sittings depending on your perseverance.

I haven't played many point-and-click games, or many mystery games, but this one was recommended by a number of trusted reviewers so I gave it a shot. Aside from a few moments of confusion caused by a misinterpreted information (and a mild annoyance that increasingly complicated scenarios require more and more backtracking), there's little to complain about and a lot to recommend. While the characters aren't exceptionally compelling, the mysteries surrounding the titular idol are, and I appreciated how each new case built on those that preceded it. If you enjoy solving mysteries and unraveling conspiracies, I'd give this one a shot. (If you don't, how did you even get here?)

A great discovery / knowledge puzzle game in a similar realm of The Return of the Obra DInn. Piece together the clues and pay attention to details and weave together the story surrounding a mysterious Golden Idol. It is easy to back track if you need to as well.

In "The Case of the Golden Idol" you are tasked with solving a series of mysterious deaths, building up clues by examining a scene (or scenes) and then working these up into evidence. A useful hint system does exist within the game although I haven't used it, as these games are ones I particular enjoy having played many point and click adventures in the late 80's and early 90's. The detective portion of the game is great fun, allows a decent amount of experiementation while lightly guiding you to a correct outcome that then builds on in future scenes. I'm currently half way into chapter 3 of 12 and thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes piecing clues together and working on puzzles. It has a similar edge as "The Obra Dinn" and "Tangle Tower" both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend!
