Description
A war is brewing in Aventásia.

During the eternal struggle of the Alliance of Free Races against the Army of Shadows, an aged gremlin archaeologist Mortimer MacGuffin discovers the secret repository that houses a legendary artifact! Knowing that this ancient treasure could turn the tide of war, the Army of Shadows sends their best agents to seize it. At the same time four unlikely heroes from the Alliance are drawn into the crisis: a cute gnome Wilbur, a stunningly attractive wood elf princess Ivo, and a brash pirate Nate with his furry companion, the mysterious Critter.

The Book of Unwritten Tales is a classic point-and-click adventure game with a cornucopia of humorous references. Whether it gently lampoons a particularly popular MMO or the stereotypical fantasy conventions, it’s sure to put a knowing smile on the face of even the most hardened adventurer! If you're looking for a comedic relief from all the super-serious plots of modern games, this beautifully-presented point-and-click adventure will be perfect for you.
  • Travel through a beautifully presented world that is a twisted image of almost every popular fantasy land you’ve visited in games, movies, and books.
  • Help a pack of hapless heroes to solve over 150 mind-boggling puzzles and discover more than 300 items that can be used and combined.
  • Meet a cast of crazy characters - from two-headed ogres and vegetarian dragons to good-natured zombies.

Daedalic step aside

The sensibleness and logic of Blackwell Bundle combined with the visual appeal and humor of Whispered World. The Book Of Unwritten Tales is one of the best games in the adventure genere that has come along in a long time. Forget the Deadelic adventures everyone raves about, this one surpasses even those. Pros: * Logical. Puzzles actually make sense * No useless items. Every item you can pick up will eventually be used for something * Can save the game at any point * No constant backtracking for items or to solve puzzle. Has some of that, but not to the ridiculous, and tedious point that a lot of adventure games do. * Game divided up into stages or chapter, of were you have only certain locations to explore and not one overall huge area that you have to makes dozens of guesses at before you eventually choose the one you need to be at. Cons: * This is not really a negative and it makes the game more challenging, but some might find that having to talk to a character about the same thing more than once a bit of tedium. Sometimes you will talk to a character, then at a certain point int the game, you talk to them again about the same subject to get what you need, because something between the first time you talked about a subject and the last time you talk about the same subject will have changed. I rate this a five star game, and that says a lot coming from someone who really isn't that much of an adventure game fan.

Non-Indies can still do adventure games!

I am a long time lover of point and click adventure games, but had disappointedly shifted to the indie sphere for my fix in the 2000s. Then I picked up this game in a sale, and found a breath of fresh air. + Comedy that hits its mark (and I say this speaking as someone who really dislikes the Daedalic brand of comedy, so don't worry, this is not that) + An engaging story where you're invested with the characters + Full of that sense of exploring a new world on an "adventure" that made the classics so great + Beautifully done backgrounds, characters, animation and music + Headscratching puzzles but not the kind that will have you reaching for a walkthrough first thing - As a non-hardcore/for-the-puzzles adventure gamer, I did have to reach for the walkthrough a couple times, and often it turned out that this was because I didn't see the interactable patch of dirt that was 2 shades lighter than the patches of dirt around it. Pixel-hunting and some of the more obscure puzzles was enough of a problem that I felt it removed 1 star.

Great for newcomers to P&C

Second best point & click game I've played, the first one being a polish exculsive niche title. Why? It doesn't force on you hours of frustration because you missed some unreasonably difficult to spot detail. It doesn't guide you by the hand either. Soundtrack is a bit lacking; unlike the other title there are quite long moments of silence breaking the immersion, but OST is decent enough (main theme in particular is gorgeous). I was sceptical about the graphics, but it's actually perfect. Veterans of P&C might not find it great - those who broke their teeth on most ridiculous puzzles out there would hardly be slowed down. Beginners though? If you plan to explore the games of this category, absoultely start with this one. Here's an important clue, which was entirely skipped in the tutorial: pressing the spacebar reveals all points of interest. Have fun, I've certainly did.

Very well done

I was really impressed with this game. The characters were well done, and the voice acting was really good, the artwork was great, and the humor had me laughing quite often. With adventure games I often get stuck and rely on walkthroughs more than I'd like to admit, but the puzzles in this one were very logical and it was easy to see what was expected of me--and another feature I really liked was that if something is of no more use, you can't interact with it or even "look" at it anymore--a simple thing, but it kept me from barking up the tree a lot. My only complaint about the game is that it was very long, and while I had fun the whole time I was playing it, it had me staying up late several days in a row to finish it. Anyway, 5/5 stars.

The Artwork Keeps Me Going

The story seems like pretty typical fantasy/adventure fare, but the artwork is what jazzes me. I'm pushing forward with it because I really want to see the next scene. The dialogue tends to be over-long for my taste, and I don't find the game as humorous as some people, but there are some funny moments, for sure, and the voice acting is pretty good. One other thing I like is that the controls are easy--left click, right click, and spacebar (to see all the clues highlighted). All in all it's a pretty easy game, which for me is a good thing, and I would recommend it to someone who wants an easy adventure game and some nice eye-candy.
