BOO! Haunted House 2019

This game is pretty forgettable. It's got a nonsensical story that seems built around game mechanics rather than an intelligently planned narrative. The main characters are annoying. They quarrel and bicker for no reason. I quickly grew to despise them. The gameplay is extremely linear and scripted. You go from point A to point B, solve a puzzle, then move on from point B to C. There are a few lame jump scares along the way. The horror elements are laughable. For example: A "scary" zombie girl pulls you through the floor and disappears, leaving you scratching your head over what happened. Your character says "I think she was trying to pull me down the hell!" This line made me cringe so hard. A lot of the game is written like that. It's really cheesy. But there are a few positives. The game held my attention despite its flaws. It's like a "B movie" you can enjoy with a bucket of popcorn. The graphics are nice. There's an interesting quantum gadget that lets you see into the past by revealing particle clouds. It's kind of fun to play with. Emma (the annoying protonist's wife) is cute. Um... There are tons of documents to collect and read, if you wish to pause your playthrough and do homework assignments. I had fun looking for ways to spy on Emma while she was in the shower. Unfortunately that proved to be a futile endeavor. 2/5 Stars (Not recommended.)

Good game with gamebreaker (for me)

The good: The game begins fine with a good atmosphere. There are some nice features and some new ideas like the idea to play with two characters - pretty good one! The horror is decent, for myself there are too many jumpscares but thats only my opinion. Important for me: the atmosphere is dense! Graphics, movement and sound is pretty good, the game runs stable, no crashes or bugs found. Now to the bad and ugly (SPOILERS): In the middle of the game there is one mission which is really annoying (chapter 8). You have to run around and find the exit and in the same time you have to hide and/or escape from a ghost which will kill you with one hit. I tried for hours but I did not make it. This breaks the game for me which is very sad because the story is thrilling.

That's the way I like it! Please more!

This game has everything for me! A story and timeline I can't decipher in 5 minutes, riddles that actually make you use your head, real ghostly menaces as well as that one apparition I named "prankster" because he does just that. Scare the living hell out of you for fun. The Beast Inside features athmospheric horror as well as sneaky, creepy parts or skedaddle action. The game always has you back with pinpoint set checkpoints and it is overall fair. Lean back and enjoy. This is the first game where I felt comfortabe with not being able to save manually. I died some times throughout my playthrough, but thanks to those well done checkpoints it wasn't frustrating at all. Since you play 2 different characters (with their own personality, habits and experiences) and explore their story and setting, the game never gets boring. Exciting passages mix with more calm scenes and exploration. Yes, the protagonists do quabble, but they do have their reasons. Just follow the narration and listen, pay attention. Or make notes like I did. Nostalgic. They built in so many details that give the player more insight. Take a good look around into every corner. If you want. I played on Beast mode right from the get go, because I wanted the riddles to be actually that. Not something laid out for me, blinking and spoonfed so even a toddler could solve it like in so ma ny games. I can't emphasize this point enough, how much I enjoyed these puzzles! First title in a long time that actually made me think. All fair, logical and if you wanted and needed, hints were provided. They even built in Enigma! How cool is that?! Oh and if it gets too hard for you, you can always change the difficulty. Solution if you encounter a bug and are somewhat stuck: If you are in a log cabin and the desk upstairs has nothing small and square for you to pick up, load from last checkpoint. That fixes it. (I tried this without spoilers. When you get there, you will know what I mean^^)

"Use your trusted revolver..." ...once.

So, I absolutely loved this game from start to finish. However, I rate games based on their faithfulness to the game page description... And this one said I could use my trusted revolver to shoot my way out from even the most lethal of scenarios... And there was only one chapter, out of 13, that called for me to carry a revolver. The rest of the game was run or die, and no revolver in sight. So, when a game doesn't live up to it's description I start docking stars. But, that issue aside, the game is freaking wonderful! I personally thought the pace of some of the scarier chapters was a little too intense for me, but I pushed through and I'm glad I did. This game pushed and pulled me around mentally in so many ways, and threw a good amount of jump scares at me to where I forced myself to take a few days off after the intense chapters. The graphics and music and voice acting are all superb. The length of the game as a whole was perfect. Any longer and I would have lost interest, and any shorter and I would have complained about the cost. Thankfully I had grabbed it on sale, so I feel it was money well spent. There is a heavy focus on story telling and a little bit of puzzle solving. Nothing too difficult. It's the running portions that were the most stressful to me, and even then they weren't scenes that I had to replay so many times that I got frustrated. They were manageable. This is not a first person shooter, though one chapter contains that element. This is a great, dark, intense story. If that sounds appealing then you won't regret adding this game to your library.

Super Fun Game but it's Buggy

First off, this game is one of the better games I've played this year. The writing, voice acting, and world building for this game is spot on. The game flashes back between a late 1970's and 1800's plot arc with rich story-telling in both of the arcs that really sells you on the story and the atmosphere. There were a few tiny plot holes, but, overall if you like a good story this game delivers in spades. There are interesting puzzles and the game does have genuinely terrifying moments so I do recommend playing it in the dark. This is the good stuff. Now on to the bad. This game will not run on a 10th or later generation Intel processor out of the box. I have a 12th gen intel and nothing I did could get it to work until I ran across a post on another game distribution platform that actually worked. Here is how I got it to work: Originally posted by M: First of all, this issue occurs on devices with a 10th generation or higher intel computer. I was having the same issue and by following these steps my issue was resolved: step1 : press ( CTRL + R ) Paste this '' SystemPropertiesAdvanced '' step2 : Next click on Environment Variables... (look lower right of the window of this) step3 : In the lower frame, System Variables, press New step4 : And in the fields, paste these values: Variable Name: OPENSSL_ia32cap Variable value: ~0x20000000 Press Ok and close the Environment Variables window. Restart the computer. Try to run the game now.
