Reviews/Accolades
“A knockout indie entry in gaming.” - TechRaptor
“Just Purkey Games has made something special… You’re off the edge of the map. Here be dragons. But if you play it right, the scariest thing in this world might just be you.” -Shacknews
“The Axis Unseen is the most Skyrim-like game I’ve played since Skyrim… stripped back and filtered through the likes of Elden Ring and Praey for the Gods.” - The Escapist
Hunt monsters from folklore. Follow their tracks and blood trails. Pay attention to the wind direction so they can't smell you approaching.
The Axis Unseen can be played both as a stealth game or as an intense action game, depending on your personal style and preference.
For people who want a less hardcore experience, the difficulty can be changed at any time and there is even a pacifist mode where you can take pictures of the creatures to unlock things instead. For an extra challenge, there is a permadeath mode.
The Axis Unseen is a game all about immersion and discovery. Almost all of the UI exists on your bow and hands. Creatures will track you with sight, sound and smell and and have specific weaknesses.
You have to check your quiver to see how many arrows you have. Tattoos on your hand light up to show your health and active powers. Your bow shows how much energy you have collected from the creatures you have killed and how much sound you are making.
Can you uncover the mysteries of this world and how to defeat the creatures?
The Axis Unseen features original music by Clifford Meyer, previously of the legendary post-metal bands ISIS and Red Sparowes. It is a unique blend of heavy metal and primitive instruments. The music dynamically adjusts to what is going on in the game. Sometimes it is atmospheric, other times it is intense metal.
Upgrade your senses with the powers of the creatures. See scent particles. Feel the warmth left behind on their tracks. See colors that no human has ever seen.
Your bow and arrow keeps you alive. Upgrade your bow or even find different arrow types such as fire, wind controlling or time distorting arrows. Experiment to see all the different ways the arrows can interact with each other, such as wind arrows making the fire spread faster.
You also have a safe area where all of the monsters, powers, magic, equipment and map sections that you find unlock sculptures and a 3d version of the map to look at to help you navigate the world. You can also use this space to seamlessly fast travel around the world without ever needing to open a menu.
Find out what happened to the hunters and other visitors to this place who came before you and what secrets they uncovered by finding their journals. Where did this world come from? How do you stop the creatures from escaping into your world? As you explore this world you will also make your own journal entries and drawings about the monsters, powers and equipment that you find.
The Axis Unseen is developed by Nate Purkeypile. Nate Purkeypile has been making games for 20 years and worked on titles such as Skyrim, Fallout 3/4/76, Starfield, Metroid Prime 3 and BloodRayne 2. He was the Lead Artist on Fallout 76 and the Co-Lead/Lead Artist on the Fallout 3 DLC, Point Lookout.
Note: If you have an AMD card and are experiencing crashes on startup, reinstall your drivers without the optional Radeon software. This is a general Unreal 5/AMD issue and it can causes crashes. This is outside of my control. RivaTuner can also causes crashes.

You are a hunter in a surreal an unhospitable world where creatures are both your prey and your hunters, they can see you, hear you and smell you. There’s a day/night cycle with weather effects that can hinder or help you, there’s no map or compass, but your spirit arrows work as a light source in the deepest darkness or as a scouting tool to get your bearings. So, thread carefully, pay attention to your surroundings and try to avoid unfavorable winds. Uncover secrets to unravel the history of the land and gain gear upgrades, but don’t rush, or you might end up dead before you can “lock in” your experience points.
Great visuals, great music and directional sound to keep you immersed, this game is great for those of us that want to play a sneaky character and have no issues with “paying attention” as the most important game mechanic.
If you liked Thief, you'll probably like this one.
Game looks promising at first, but gets repetitive very fast. You don't have a map and sneek around most times without any destination to follow. This makes it hard to impossible to find the things you need to proceed in progress. You will find yourself facing enemies you cannot defeat with the gear you have. The only possibility you have is to find the next stage by chance. Textures look very rough. Mud is simply brown and rock is simply white. It is the same texture over and over. All in all - the Idea is great but lacks variety and a little guidance. Boring textures and repetitive environment lost me rather quickly.
This game definitely isn't for everyone, but for me, it scratches some itch. Yeah, some mechanics are clunky, the minimalism of the interface and goals is taken too far in some ways, but the aescetic is unmatched, and it's overall such a different experience that I can't help but like it.
One of the things this games page brags about is that the land is bigger then skyrim.
In this case it's a bad thing... huge open areas with little or nothing in them, surrounded by sheer cliffs.
This accurately describes EVERY area in the game.
Most games have you stay by the roads because the things out from them can kill you until you level up and then after that point you can go cross country.
That's not possible here; the entire map is designed like some sort of fully enclosed mouse maze!
How's the combat?
It's alirght... thought in ~6 hours of gameplay, I only found wood and fire arrows, leaving me unable to kill some enemies.
Enemies don't have resistance and vulnerabilities... instead they have IMMUNITIES and some of them have vulnerabilities.
This means you will often be unable to even damage some of the enemies in any given area.
Game claims it's immersive; it is NOT!
The rediculous landscapes and almost constant spawning of enemies as I walk around leaves me with NO immersion at all since I don't usually don't have time to look at the scenery!
There are giant skeletons all over the place; this starts off being cool, but then becomes a very pointless thing as you realize they are everywhere.
For something like that to be special, it needs to be rare, not the most common thing in the game!
Most of the UI is on your bow and gloves.
This is not immersive.. on the contrary, the bow is usually glowing an obnoxious amount!
The majority of the ui is perfectly understandable, except for the health indicator.. which never made any sense.
At no point did I ever understand how much health I had!
There's notes around the map, but they are nearly unreadable.
This game doesn't have an alternate read mode to allow you to read them easier, so I never did get to read most of them.
There's no text or ui scaling.
There's magic, but the passives are the only ones that matter.
Active magic doesn't last long enough to have any effect!
