Description
The Age of Decadence is an isometric, turn-based, single-player role-playing game set in a low magic, post-apocalyptic fantasy world, inspired by the fall of the Roman Empire. The game features a detailed skill-based character system, multiple skill-based ways to handle quests, choices & consequences, and extensive dialogue trees.

Traditionally, many fantasy RPGs are about killing things, clearing up dungeons, and being a hero. Now, there is nothing wrong with mindless fun and wish fulfillment, but we serve a different meal here. Quoting from one of the reviews:

“Well, if you want a hardcore, heavy metal roleplaying experience that challenges you, this is the ticket. Otherwise, take a pass. The game is vicious, both in its lack of morality and its merciless systems. If you want to be the hero of a story, run and don’t look back. If you want to be Attia of the Julii or be a power player, this is your RPG.”

The focus of the game is not on killing monsters, but rather on dealing with fellow humans and factions, trying to survive – easier said than done – and making a name for yourself. Naturally, to accommodate all that scheming, plotting, and backstabbing, we give the player plenty of choices, from multiple solutions to quests to different paths you can take through the game. You (and your actions) will determine who your friends and enemies are. There are no default good and bad guys.
  • 23 skills, ranging from Dagger and Critical Strike to Disguise and Persuasion to Alchemy and Lore.
  • Tactical combat system, featuring a flexible set of standard attacks, special attacks such as whirlwind and impale, and aimed attacks at different body parts.
  • 8 weapon types: daggers, swords, axes, hammers, spears, bows, crossbows, throwing weapons, each with individual traits.
  • Non-combat quest resolutions and a well-developed diplomatic path.
  • Over 100 quests, taking you to 20 locations: towns, outposts, archeological digs, sealed places of Power, underground facilities, and temples.
  • Each situation has multiple ways of handling it, based on your skills, reputation, and connections.
  • An interesting world with rich history and unclear future that your actions can shape into seven very different game endings.
  • Detailed crafting and alchemy systems: forge your own weapons with different properties, brew different potions, experiment with Greek's fire and black powder.
  • Hundreds of items, ranging from weapons and armor to scrolls, tools, flasks, and pre-war relics.

I could've read a book instead.

The writing is poor and dull. The graphics are mostly pointless because this is really just a text choose-your-own adventure book. All you do is read long swaths of (poor, dull) writing and click through tedious dialogue trees. And die if you pick the wrong thing. Wish I could get a refund.

True gem

One of the best RPG I ever played. True you the game seems to lock many choices between arbitrary stats ceil. However this is not a game intended to be played once, you have to play it several times with different game plans in order to uncover the full plot. A single playthrough might seem limited, but in truth it's a masterpiece and you will forget thoses boundaries once you understand your class, your game plan and gonna stick with it... whatever it might be

Pure Garbage

Dont believe the glowing reviews, this is not an rpg but more like choose your own adventure with skill checks along the way. its simply retarded and abominable in design. Ignore the comments like "not for Bioware lovers", "Bethesda fans neednt apply" or "old school hard-core only". Its not old-school hardcore in fact lots of old school games like Wizardry were acutally crappy. Its unintuitive in its design, has a dumb as dirt story, assets look like garbage. Its sold as post-apocalyptic but you wouldnt know that when playing it. Its basically a game heavily reliant on trial and error all the while bragging its deadly difficult. It aint. Its stupidly and dellusionally designed. The dev/s must be retarded or drunk to even compare this game to Fallout(which it doesnt). Its not realistic like it says it is. Dont believe the shills from RPGcodex praising the this game. If you must play it just borrow a copy before actually buying the game.

Propably great but...

I've managed to play maybe twenty minutes by that time I've crashed six times on different occasions. Talk to first guy - crash, press map icon - crash, hit esc - crash, etc. All this is too bad since I had high hopes for this game and would have propably really enjoyed it. But I don't have time for constant restarting.

Potentially brilliant, totally ruined.

If only there were an option to turn off the embarrassingly bad, repetitive, fight banter it would be so much easier to appreciate all the good things about this game. It's very clear that a lot of thought went into making this, and it's equally obvious that while the person doing that thinking was putting his soul into making this game, another part of the creative team was totally dedicated to breaking his heart. The fight banter is the most unavoidable iteration of this, but there are plenty of others. The over all impression is very much like trying to appreciate a stunningly beautiful orchestral concert while the person seating beside you is farting continuously. You regret walking out, but it's worse to stay. It's a real shame.
