Your tag-along little sister... Just how hard would you have to push to get her swing to do a loop?
Ancient Ms. Glass' English class... Hey kiddies, can you spell "cardiac arrest?"
Good 'ol mom and dad... Dump 'em fast, dump 'em now, look cute and blame everything on your sister.
Welcome to the terminally cute, seriously warped world of Willy Beamish. You'll face neurotic yuppie parents, teachers pushed over the edge, a ghostly grandfather back from the grave, the baby-sitter from hell, a pet jumping frog on steroids and a plot to blow the city's sewer system sky high. It's chaotic, it's juvenile, it's definitely deranged and you're gonna love every minute of it.
I played this so often as a kid, it was one of my favorite Sega CD games. I honestly didn't realize there were other versions. So while I am a bit disappointed that the sound and graphics are a little worse than I remember, Willy Beamish is otherwise the same game I remember. And yes, the load times were horrible on the Sega CD but we got to play with those balls in between screens and that was kinda fun. Well, maybe I can finally figure out how to get that vampire bat lady.
Ok, in this game you are a kid in detention, first is just like watching a cartoon for 5 minutes, then an arrow appears and you're like "OMG I get to do something?" so you are just point and click at things.
The teacher talks to you, you come up with answers, should I say: "Oh that was my frog Horny"...
THE FROG'S NAME IS HORNY???
One of my favorite games of my youth. My dad bought this when I was 7 to improve my reading ability. I've loved reading ever since. The goodies this game came with appealed directly to my 7-year old sensibilities (they also provided vital clues to some of the puzzles). This game helped my abstract reasoning ability so that I actually finished some puzzles in King's Quest 6 my parents had trouble with!
It's sad Dynamix didn't go through with the sequel :(.
I owned the Sega CD version of the game. The loading time on the Sega CD was so long that it discouraged me from completing the game at the time. So, when I saw this game on GOG, it made me want to buy it and finally complete it.
The atmosphere of this game is simply fantastic: in my opinion, there aren't any games like this anymore with that Saturday morning cartoon vibe. The graphics are still good, but sometimes they're too pixelated.
The gameplay is average at best. The game is divided into four different days, and the notion of time is important; which makes it difficult to complete the game in a relaxed manner. The worst part is the numerous puzzles that must be solved within ~30 seconds or you die. There are several, and when you die, it takes some time to reload the game; which is annoying. Towards the end, I admit I used a walkthrough because I was sick of dying while trying to solve not-so-easy puzzles.
The story could have been much better; it's way too nonsensical. I understand the style they went, but it's too over the top for me.
I think the game will appeal to some older players who don't mind accepting the flaws of past games, but younger players won't like this one.
