Description
The 13th Doll is a game created by and for fans of The 7th Guest series! It began as an all volunteer, freeware passion project, but evolved into a fully licensed game.

In the 7th Guest, evil toymaker Henry Stauf built a mansion, and invited 6 guests. A 7th Guest, Tad, snuck in and was trapped there, afflicted by mystifying spirits, dolls and the ghosts of the other guests - until he defeated Stauf.

The 13th Doll ties in with the events of The 7th Guest. A decade after Tad managed to escape the mansion, he is still haunted by the souls, dolls, and Stauf's victims he left behind. So haunted, in fact, that the young man now resides in a mental institution - misunderstood, plagued by guilt and obsessed with one idea: to escape the dreary padded walls of his asylum cell, return to the mansion - the site of his innermost fears - to rescue those he left behind and defeat Stauf once and for all!

Soon, a new doctor by the name of Richmond arrives in the asylum. Naïve to the legacy of Henry Stauf, and equally bewildered and intrigued by the fantastic legend, the staunch rationalist plans to take Tad on a cathartic trip back to the mansion.

This unconventional therapy attempt rapidly turns into a fateful journey, unravelling Tad and Richmond's contrasting worldviews and leading the unlikely duo straight into a horrifying vortex of lies, illusions, lunacy and death. And soon a blood-curdling question arises: Have the two visitors really made their way to Stauf's harrowing home on their own accord or are they mere pawns in a much grander, inescapable scheme?

While playing The 13th Doll, a lot of time will be spent navigating through gloomy sites, concealed rooms and maze areas from an immersive first person perspective. Thanks to the game being developed in Unity3d, this becomes an advanced and engaging experience, as the engine allows free movement and a fully accessible environment in detailed high-definition visuals. For the first time, players will be able to explore every inch of Stauf's residence and face all its eerie inhabitants up close and personal. A plethora of interactive, delightfully animated objects will bring even the most desolate locations to life.

Logic puzzles were an integral part of The 7th Guest's gameplay, and The 13th Doll follows suit. We've designed 26 original brain-teasers, all varying in style and offering a wide array of intellectual challenges. These diabolical creations are found throughout the game - whether it be card tricks, pathfinding and chess challenges, or even artificial intelligence puzzles versus Henry Stauf himself!.

Fans know best

This started out back in 2006 or 7, as far as I can remember, as a fan project to develop a 7th Guest / 11th Hour sequel - as Trilobyte had, at the time, been deactivated due to the well known feud between Graeme Devine and Rob Landeros during the production of the 11th Hour. Since then, Landeros reactivated Trilobyte and launched his own Kickstarter for a third instalment in the series, but fell short of the funding, offering his blessing to the already ongoing (and successful) fan project - that I backed. After all these years, it is finally here! I played the Steam version for hours... and the waiting was worth it! Being fans of the original 7th Guest, it can clearly be ascertained that the developers knew exactly what made 7th Guest into the success it was and why it is still a cult classic for a retro crowd. Yes, they did naturally update the game technologically, both in gameplay (as now you can move around with WASD and not just depend on mouse clicks) and in graphics and FMV. One aspect that really pleased me was the fact that despite including updated FMV and graphics, it still maintains that "rough-edgedness" that gives you the feeling that you are truly playing a sequel to the 7th Guest (something that the 11th Hour was unable to do due to technical and story choices. Nostalgia is fed during the game, but it isn't its focus - the puzzles and exploration are. The acting isn't top class, which is a plus, because it maintains its coherence with the original, as it really brings you back to the 90's when this was all new. The music is also coherently put together - updated, yes, original, also, yet still old school midi-based (or at least mimicking it successfully) and transpiring the same atmosphere as the 7th Guest. In summary: if you are a fan of the original 7th Guest, you will love this. If you are not, although you do not need to play the original to get into the game, it does enhance your experience of the 13th Doll if you first play the 7th Guest.

True continuation of 7th Guest

It feels and plays like a true sequel to the 7th Guest. I'm only on my third puzzle but the atmosphere is great and the acting is cheesy like FMV should be, There's two paths you can take right at the beginning of the game so seeing the story from two perspectives is cool. The UI has glitches and issues that annoy a bit: sound volume resets in certain scenes so caution to headset gamers, you can't skip dialogue so you rehear the little hint queue at the beginning of the game every single time it resets, GOG lists cloud saves but the game doesn't have any (contacted support it should get clarified soon) and the subtitles don't always match the spoken dialogue. That being said, pretend like you're playing this in 1995 right after the 7th Guest and fans won't be disappointed.

Must play for any 7th Guest fans!

The amount of care and love put into this game is astounding. The music is great, the puzzles are very fun and creative, and walking around Henry Staufs mansion with modernized graphics was simply awesome. If you are a fan of the 7th Guest and the 11th Hour you must try this game! I personally think this is my favorite of the three. A job very well done!

Great game and graphics.

I am only 4 puzzles into the game and then things start to get really buggy. Sometimes restarting from a previous save point corrects this and I learned what items with the teeth icon not to click on to prevent the game from freezing. After solving the 4th puzzle and leaving the kitchen the game freezes every time. I am using the recommended windows 10 and expect to be able to play through the entire game for $30. The story is excellent up until the game freezes and I enjoyed the 4 playable puzzles which are not as frustrating as I remember the ones from 7th guest being. Please update/ fix the game.

Good Follow Up

Happy to find a good, solid game. I played Tad and Dr. Richmond and liked all the puzzles. A few were annoying (glad for walkthrus). Worth buying to revisit Stauf's mansion and play the 20+ puzzles. I thought I had done a good job finding VIP names but I missed a few. Enjoyed this one. Good Job!!
