At long last

This is exactly what I was hoping for with GOG. I never sell any games, so I still own all the games I like. And while the price tag on games like Far Cry may be nice, I have no trouble playing them on my current machine. But some games need really big efforts to get running on XP or Vista and in the case of all the Tex Murphy games I haven't been able to get them running at all. With GOG that's not a problem any more. Install, play, have fun! Under A Killing Moon was my first Tex Murphy game and after shit games like Phantasmagoria or TLC I was astounded at how good a so-called "Interactive Movie" could be. I came on 4 CDs, had great acting, tons of humorous dialogue, funny characters and so on. It's just great. The Pandora Directive is better, though ^_^

FMV at its best.

I had never heard of Tex Murphy before I saw it on GOG, so I thought I would give it a rumble. I have to say I am surprised the game is genuinely funny, and the acting though not necessarily going to get itself in Cannes film festival, does add a subtle comical satire which develops throughout the game. I find ‘Under a Killing Moon’ itself to be quite memorable with the mixture of slapstick comedy and the delicate adult humour which appears, particularly with the ongoing joke about the ‘Twistee board’. The overall feel to the games gives the impression of a crossbreed of Blade Runner and The Maltese Falcon (or any other Film Noir you can think of). This gives a very distinct dystopian world between a down beaten P.I. and a mutated world similar to that seen in Total Recall. Though saying this, the situations Tex gets into offers heavy comic reliefs and ‘not to be taken seriously’ feel. I am a huge fan of the old adventure game genre, and I have to say I am disappointed in myself I didn’t play this gem earlier however I am glad I did. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a developed story and some laugh-out loud funny moments.

THANK YOU GOG !

Thank you for allowing me to play and finally finish this absolute wonderful game. I bought the game 1 or 2 years after it came out and at that time windows 95 was already giving me trouble, i could not get past day one of the story without my computer crashing or the game stopping altogether. I tried several times throughout the years to play it again, but even with a different pc i had the same result, I was very frustrated and always gave up. Well finally today i tried one more time to make it work under xp (needless to say it didn't work at all, i suck at configuring stuff ..still) and after 14 years or so i finally can play this game thanks to your easy to install and play solution, sure i had to pay for a game i already own but it is little money for what it is. As a result i started to play it today and I am on day 4 already and i can't stop. This game is just one of the best, the cheesy comedic acting is a delight and the progression still easy and feel very comfortable, for such an old game the interface is still one of of the best. Well if you're looking for a great adventure game (which are not made anymore) this is the one and the right place to get it !

Among the best in the genre

I had not played Under a Killing Moon since it's original release. When it came out I can remember poking fun at the acting and tacky mix of CGI and FMV but still being blown away and having great fun. It is truly a testament of how fantastic the game is that those flaws, even in the context of modern gaming, still don't hurt the experience in any way. The story, character and performances are great and often hilarious, the puzzles are logical and satisfying and the interface is unique and fun to use. Only the occasional pixel hunt may hinder the puzzle progression but that is pretty much negated by a built in hint system which can easily be used to identify any overlooked items without accidentally spoiling puzzles overall or harming the story. Truly a great adventure game and having replayed it I await the impending release of the Pandora Directive with bated breath.

1 of the best fmv graphic adventures

tex muphy games are a prime example of live action fmv graphic adventures done right. Under a killing moon features a nice well paced sci-fi storyline, good characters and puzzles that aren't too difficult but aren't really easy either. it mostly features object manipulation puzzles in the style of siera and lucasarts adventures rather than slidey tile type puzzles seen on games like the 7th guest and myst which i personally prefer unlike its two sequals which do feature more slidey tile type puzzles which got on my nerves a tad. it does have a hint system though if you get stuck. unlike allot of fmv games you actually feel like your playing a game because the environments are fully explorative in 3d which was groundbreaking for its time of release. its cool that the developers have made this and the other tex murphy games available again.
