Winner of Best Character from Adventuregamers.com as well as 10 of their Readers Choice awards including Best Story and Best Adventure of 2014!
Tex Murphy wakes up – disoriented and head pounding – on the fire escape outside his office atop the Ritz Hotel. Another typical morning for the last of the old-school detectives. Except it isn’t. What starts out as the worst hangover in history becomes a baffling nightmare: something – or someone – has erased Tex’s memory of the past seven years.
Motivated by lost love, revenge, and the world’s strongest coffee blend, Tex must retrace his own steps into a maze of unsolved murders, hidden agendas, and lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Only by solving the mysteries of his past can Tex hope to regain his memory in time to restore what’s been lost and stop a terrifying future.
Tex Murphy returns to add another incredible chapter to the classic adventure game series. Noir sci-fi with a very healthy dose of humor set the stage for Tex's latest mystery.
The triumphant return of the FMV! With noteworthy actors and 1080 resolution, the colorful characters of 2050's San Francisco have never looked so good!
The greatest mystery of the century is about to be unraveled. Tex needs to find out what's going on in a hurry, but he'll have to deal with mutants, killers, femme fatales, and a bad case of amnesia to get to the bottom of things.
- simplistic 'puzzles' that are mostly nonsense and then tedious puzzles at times, mostly it's pretty too easy
- the story is ehhh, and the seeming 'highly coveted path' has the least interesting stuff going on
I like the FMV style of it, but the rest is a mix of stuff that doesn't stick together well.
There are random video clips that don't support the story and aren't funny, object finding that doesn't make sense (freezing gun), puzzles that are a game in the game instead or being part of the game. The dialogue choices are also confusing, often I couldn't tell what Tex was going to say after I picked an option.
After a while, I lost interest in playing.
For reference, this was my first Tex Murphy game.
Mechanically, the game is impressive. The seamless incorporation of FMV against games environments is great.
Nothing is overly complicated and the neat right-button tool is cleverly designed.
The environments are impressive, but a lot of the textures are surprisingly really cruddy and low-res looking.
My chief complaint has more to do with myself being an outsider to the series. I simply can't reconcile Tex's hokey and comic demeanor with the plot and subject matter. It just feels extremely disjointed to me.
I just hate it when most pc games try to be witty in a comedic way. They just are NOT funny. Penny Arcade's "On the rain-slick precipice" is the only game to really get a snicker out of my, but the humor in this game is extremely awkward.
It is by no stretch a bad game, but you really have to "get" the franchise to appreciate it and I'm not that kind of franchise fan.
If you like classic pc adventures with a satirical edge, and that trademark "it is so stupid/corny it is actually funny" then you will probably love this.
Nostalgia is this games primary selling point. I couldn't get into it.
I have seen a lot of bad dialogue on TV but this takes the cake. I have never in my life heard jokes and puns so bad as in this game, that said, it does run stable, no troubles. the acting is horrible, the whole point of an "inter-active movie" unlike most games which rely on gameplay is the acting and beleivablility and at least relatable humor that isn't so forced it sounds like they took a crap while writing the script and didn't eat enough fiber bars. Stick with the pixels, I never did like these "live actors" in games, except Wing Commader which did it right and didn't over act on the green screen.
