Description
Terroir is a 3D tile-based tycoon game where you manage your very own vineyard. In Terroir, you grow a variety of different grape varietals, craft your wine, and expand and manage your Estate. You'll also have to deal with factors such as weather and random events, which can either make or break your business.

Features

Some of the game's features and mechanics include:

  • Choose from a selection of different grape varieties, each with their own demands.
  • Dynamic weather system reflecting the unpredictability of real world climate.
  • Each complete playthrough lasts 60 in-game years, but Players can continue playing without contributing to their final score.
  • Craft wine through the game's 4 winemaking processes: Crushing, Fermentation, Pressing, and Ageing. Each type of grape needs to be crafted a certain way to achieve the best results, so you'll have to learn and master each one.
  • Start out with a single planting tile, then expand your Estate to up to 33 tiles, using 6 different tile types. Some tiles affect the ones around it, so placement is key.
  • Customize your estate with ambient items.
  • CHANCE & CIRCUMSTANCE: Terroir's random event and mission system. Players can open the Mystery Box and choose between CHANCE (a random event that could either have a positive or undesirable outcome) or CIRCUMSTANCE (a mission that a Player completes for rewards, or gets penalized for failing).
  • Join Wine Awards for a chance to earn bonuses to your wine's value and your Estate's renown.
  • Clean, minimalist design and gorgeous low-poly 3D models.
  • Original soundtrack composed and performed by Singapore's CLARQuinet ensemble.

Put on your field gloves, grab a pair of pruning shears and build your Chateau literally from the ground up. Good luck, and cheers!

Original managment game

I don't play managment game that much, but the particuliar theme of this one push me too try it. A game where you make wine is one of a kind. I found it quite difficult. The game is slow and a mistake can make you loose. I did have to retry several time. You start with one vine, she will grow depending on the weather and you have to cut leaves clerverly to bring being the vine to the right stat. Then you will have to go trought the process of making the wine, in 4 steps, adjusting the characteristics. The goal is to have a 5-stars wine. The critics of your wine gives you indications of what you can improve to make your wine better. So i encourage you to take note with the stats and indicate when you need to increase or decrease one. Making money, you will be able to unlock skills and more wine type to help you in your task. The difficulty will be to found the perfect balance to get a 5 stars wine to gets more money. The music is unique, classy and the graphics are minimalistic. Some BlackSpot : there is a lot of reading at the begining to explain you the mechanics. I encourage you not to skip : it is essential to understand the game and progress. There are only english, dutch and chinese (i believe) version so if you dint' speak one of this language well this could be harder for you. It's really slow and can gets frustrating when you follow the indication to make your wine better and this doesnt work. If you like tycoon game or slow maganement game, go for it. Overall an original game that i enjoyed playing, relaxing in a way by its design and atmosphere. For now, i played ten hours and i'm not at the end game.

Even The Basics Don't Work

I read the first several tutorial sections, then started a game and followed the initial instructions. These tell me to plant a vine, trim foilage and harvest between ripeness 4 - 6. Clicking on a planted tile shows thin/optimal/heavy foilage so it's easy to keep it 'optimal'. I also tried it at 'light foilage'. Playing through three in-game years didn't take very long, as a month passes in 10 seconds or so. During both 3-year runs the ripeness remained at 1, except for one occasion each of 2. This is with the, supposedly, easiet grape variety to grow. Oh, and the vine almost permanently had rot in both runs.

What a waste of time...

Thankfully I got this for free and hadn't used money on it... It's a wall of text that actually isn't explaining anything. It dosen't give you any explanation about how or what to actually do with the plagues of the grapes at all, except that some tiles helps against one of the plagues. No way to know expenses and incomes, just floating numbers each month without any clue of where it goes or comes from. No way to figure out what to by or sell. The processes dosen't do as they say in the descriptions. Having 2 fields overgrown can't be cut at the same time because reasons, on paused, normal or full speed... Ripeness never goes above 1 and suddenly you're harvesting??? Absolutely no guiding towards a target when on a production screen screen, just a report after tasting (when nothing more can be done) that can be "this too low at 4" or same "too high at 6" No indication of an upcoming contest that you should have saved money and wines for... Market gets full of my wine and no sales can be made until the previous stock of inevitably plagued wine is sold?!? This was on easy and I was bankrupt within 3 years, so I sold my non-producing tiles only to discover that the neighbouring tiles lost their "bonus" even thoug it was still visible? At least make your game understandable before adding voice acting into it, come on!

Good concept, ameature production

The game is fine, had a few hours of fun with it. I found it quite difficult at the start, and the game is very slow moving. So slow moving that I don't see myself starting a new game until there are some updates. Has a lot of potential, but the ameature production holds me back a bit. I would buy a Terroir 2 if one were to be made in the future

Good idea, horribly balanced

This could be a nice chill game, just making alcohol and piling up cash, but some poor choices leave it terribly broken. The weather RNG is terrible, almost every year it just goes to one extreme or the other and stays there, and there is NOTHING you can do, it just wrecks your crop. 90% of the time you will end up with "fungal rot" which will reduce your harvest anywhere from 50-75% in addition to lowering the quality, and again, there is NOTHING you can do about it. Needless to say, it is very difficult to make any money this way, and that will be the first few hours of any new game. They should have called it "Fungal Rot Simulator." Competition is horribly unbalanced if you choose to include it. The CPU competitors start out with the full tech tree unlocked, including all the late-game crops and advances that you won't get for easily 50+ years. They just pile up money 20 times faster than your best-case maximum and buy up the available land, while you're on first-tier everything with fungal rot every year and struggling to make money at all. It's too bad, this was a neat concept, but so many basic things are completely busted that you wonder if they even played their own game for an hour or two before releasing it. Like, all they would need to do is dial down the RNG and it would be a completely different game, but as it is it's basically just a broken game.
