Dig, Fight, Explore, Build: The very world is at your fingertips as you fight for survival, fortune, and glory. Will you delve deep into cavernous expanses in search of treasure and raw materials with which to craft ever-evolving gear, machinery, and aesthetics? Perhaps you will choose instead to seek out ever-greater foes to test your mettle in combat? Maybe you will decide to construct your own city to house the host of mysterious allies you may encounter along your travels?
In the World of Terraria, the choice is yours!
Blending elements of classic action games with the freedom of sandbox-style creativity, Terraria is a unique gaming experience where both the journey and the destination are completely in the player’s control. The Terraria adventure is truly as unique as the players themselves!
Are you up for the monumental task of exploring, creating, and defending a world of your own?
This game is infinitely replayable, tons of content, and is the game I have the most hours on (1.3k and counting).
There are few games that match up in terms of value, get this game, it simply cannot be compared to 99% of games in terms of that.
I picked this game up over 6 years ago, and have been enjoying it since, it's been a fun and addicting title, that i've played from single to multi to even hosting a server for some time.
Terraria is by design half platformer, half Minecraft-style building sandbox. It pulls both of them off quite well. Gameplay is very Metroid-esque; you start with melee weapons but grow out of them quickly. There's lots of stuff to mine and build, and enemies offer a good range of tactics and difficulty. Multiplayer is handled well, especially if you're looking for a 'soft' game for friends and relatives.
It should be noted, though, that the building side does suffer a bit as you reach the later stages of the game. There isn't a whole lot in the way of automata or advanced construction opportunities, so your epic fort building project may turn out feeling a little bit empty. Dwarf Fortress it ain't, for better and for worse. There's also some awkwardness with goblin invasions and hardmode mobs that pushes you toward a small number of layouts.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes games, old or new.
Okay. First off, I think this game is very good at what it does. It's got a ton of material-gathering, crafting, monster-fighting, exploring, etc... Lots of stuff to find, build and do, and for this reason alone, it merits more than one good play-through. It may have the most comprehensive crafting system I've ever seen, which is saying something. However, after a couple weeks of playing this game, I realized that I, in particular, was not having very much fun, because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do.
There's no obvious, in-game goal to achieve. Sure, you can beat new bosses and unlock new things, but the game has neither a story nor an end goal, and without those things, I'm afraid it comes across as more of an art canvas than a game to me. That said, for an art canvas, there sure are a lot of hard enemies, and they don't become much easier. You can use certain items to permanently upgrade your HP and MP, but beyond that, all of the strength-increases that you experience in the game come from your equipment. Remove it, and you're no stronger after 80 hours of playing than you were after 1. I'm the kind of gamer who isn't crazy about futility or time-wasting in video games, and this is definitely the sort of game where you can waste 20 minutes tunneling, monster-fighting and exploring, then get killed by a hidden enemy and it was all for nothing. You're no stronger, you have less money, etc... Those are 20 minutes you can't get back.
The crafting system is basic; open the crafting window near the required bench/anvil/etc and select what you want to make. Not very involving, as crafting goes. At night, zombies attack, and you need to hide inside until it's over, but there's no way to speed up time, like in the sims, so you have to waste another 12 minutes of your real life, waiting for the night to end.
Given all I'd heard people had done with this game, I was hoping for more. It does a lot of things well, but not what I'm after.
This game is basically a 2D side scroller except that you can destroy and rebuild pretty much any terrain. You start out bare, but you can quickly build some shelter to hide from the enemies that lurk around you. Later on you can adventure underground to mine for all kinds of rare ores to use for crafting. You can craft armor, weapons, magic items, misc items, furniture, building blocks and even boss summoning items. From time to time you will meet with a boss that has decided to attack you or you stumbled into its territory. It might present a challenge to new users, but if you've got good armor and weapons it's no problem.
Build your house and later on a village to invite NPC's to come and live alongside, and many NPC's offer some benefits i.e. a store to buy new stuff. Craft awesome weapons and armor and defeat the final boss, if you can :) Finally there's also multiplayer mode available.
A very much worth game to buy. One thing that bothers me though is that most enemies are automatically in aggro mode and attack you even before you come close to them.
