Fantastic Terminator Experience

This game did an extremely good job of capturing the gloomy, post-apocalyptic feel of the future scenes in the first two Terminator movies and perfectly balancing stealth, combat, story and skills/item management. It's a lot of fun exploring every level, avoiding murderous machine patrols and scavenging for items and experience, and despite being fairly easy even on the higher difficulty settings, you never lose the feeling of having to be vigilant in the face of overwhelming odds. The game world really does feel like it's been utterly conquered by the enemy, and you and all your allies constantly feel vulnerable. The Terminators themselves lose a bit of their menace once you get weapons capable of dealing with them, and the simplistic AI could definitely have been made more effective and frightening, but it stays immersive and exciting right through the climax, which makes very effective use of the iconic film score. There are a few flaws- the plot twist is predictable, there are a few too many reused assets (every ruin seems to be either a convenience store, shoe store or retro burger bistro and apparently the only food the survivors eat are endless boxes of maraschino cherries- the game even pokes fun at this at one point), the characters are a little stiff, and there aren't really any traces of the year 1997, when Judgment Day supposedly happened, leaving everything either a bit generic and timeless or a little too modern-feeling (for example, a video rental store has shelves with what appear to be rental games in DVD-style cases, rather than the Playstation 1-era CD jewel cases that would have been popular at the time... then again, the very existence of a video rental store is retro, I suppose). None of it ruins the gameplay experience. The Infiltrator Mode, which allows you to play as a Terminator, is short but a lot of fun and feels very faithful to the films- I'd love to see a similar expansion that lets you travel back in time! Highly recommended.

Exceptional writing and tone

The writing makes this game perfect for fans of Terminator and T2. Actually, I consider it the best written story in the franchise since T2. The tone of the story is great, too. The game play is definitely functional but imperfect. Some elements/systems, like crafting, upgrading, and searching for items, feel a little halfhearted (some resource names are ridiculous) either in spirit or execution - but I guess if you're a resistance fighter in the future, you're doing those things. The combat can feel tame/dull at the start, maybe that depends on your play style... As I got better gear, tho, I thought it became much more fun. The characters are great, with both good script and acting. If for some reason you hate it, but you're a big fan of the franchise, watch the story on a youtube let's play channel. Strongly recommended despite any flaws, the devs did a fine job.

Good All Around FPS Shooter.

The game looks good and runs smooth as butter. Before you get the plasma rifle you have tread lightly around the T-800's. Some have said the game is too easy, I disagree. This game is a challenge and no piece of cake. I would recommend the game. I played it on Linux via wine\vulcan\dvxk and it ran and looked great.

AI is DumbDumb-Dumb-DumbDumb

This is a game that is obviously going to appeal to fans of the Terminator film series, particularly the first two films. It's a good game, but could be a fantastic game with a little more effort, especially with graphics and AI. Pros: +Does a good job of creating the war-torn future shown briefly in the movies in both appearance and atmosphere. +Music is spot on. There are some original songs and remixes of those from the movies, and they all fit in nicely. +Voice acting is pretty good. Not AAA quality, but better than I expected from a small game studio. +Story is good. Predictable, but it's well told with good pacing. +Lots of weapons and equipment to play with, some of which I barely got to use. A cool upgrade system for some guns. +While I wouldn't call it an open world game, the levels are pretty expansive. Lots of freedom of movement. +Leveling up system allows a bit of customization of your character. +Ran almost perfect for me in 21:9 with only a little bit of very brief framerate drops in a few parts. +Good length. Took me about 15 hours to complete at 96%. +Full keyboard control customization. +Only one game crash. Cons: -The graphics are pretty dated. It needs higher-res textures and better lighting. -Enemy AI is terrible. They won't chase you. Just shoot, hide, wait for them to forget about you, and repeat. Takes a lot of challenge and tension out of the game. -Level design is uninspired. Skills like lockpicking or hacking only unlock loot, not different paths through the level. There are invisible walls all over the place and if you're not careful, you'll get stuck on scenery. Not much verticality either. -Enemies often spawn in ridiculously close to you. It's very jarring and breaks immersion. -No physics. Object in the world are static and can't be interacted with. -Destroying Skynet bases gets old pretty quick (at least most of them are optional). System specs: Ryzen 5 1600, GTX 1080, 16GB RAM, SSD, 3440x1440 G-Sync Monitor.

No perfection, but it respects T1 and T2

And respect for the fans is a hard thing to come by these days, sad as that statement is. This is the missing continuation the fans always wanted, but never really got from Hollywood to a most satisfying degree. It is the story about the final fights in the Machine War and you have a vital role in the things to come. Duration: Well, I got the game yesterday and installed it and despite making it through the night, I couldn't stop until I reached the game's end after 15 hours. All that is missing are two achievements and I'll have to re-run the game for that as well, I think. Performance: Well, it stuttered, I had to tone the settings down a nudge or two. The requirements are high, yet I managed to get through no sweat. Music: Ahhhh... The old soundtracks. Once you come into your hideout early in the game, the soft and slow tracks from T2 kick in and you are taken back to these scenes between Sarah, John and T-800. Then, there are the fast paced tracks right in the middle of the action and you can feel your blood boiling as adrenaline kicks in. Fantastic! Gameplay: Well, it's a shooter (Duh!), but it certainly has some stealth mechanics and enviromental hazards. Want to preserve ammunition? Lure the tinheads towards some plasmatanks and blow those tanks up. Good times. However, I played the game on normal difficulty and always got enough ammo. Not to forget that at one point one is best advised to update the owned arsenal from conventional to higher degrees to battle clutter in the inventory. Lower tier weapons do little to no damage on some enemies anyway. Story: Well the story is nothing completely new, there are elements of already known from the lore. Like the survivor shelter or the terminator types in the future battle. Silverfishes, drones,T-47s, HKs and HK tanks. Result: There are some 1-Star Reviews for this game, don't you listen to them. Buy this game while on sale and you're good to go. This game is one for the fans.
