The best Terminator game ever made.

Played it on Steam but want to give impressions here. So the game itself is not the most amazing thing ever, in fact i'd say its just okay to good. What makes it better is if you're a fan of the franchise and hate how bastardized its become with the latest awful movies ruining the lore. Ever since T3 was first announced, I just wanted a good future war setting movie since imho there was nothing more to do with the story after T2. Terminator Salvation was meh, never watched the show, and the last two movies were Star Wars prequels/sequels levels of bad. This game however gave me the future war story I wanted, and best of all its portrayed as if only the first two films happened. As for the gameplay I enjoyed it. It was a typical FPS with some fun RPG elements like levelling up your lock picking or hacking skills, the weapons were satisfying, especially the laser guns, and the stealth segments did a good job imitating the tension we felt for the characters in the movies. My only problem(and this may be related to the difficulty i played) was that it could have used more of a survival feeling like the early RE games by making ammo more scarce and the T800s being tougher to kill. Overall I'd say its worth checking out if you're a fan of the series and you want a light FPS to kill a day or two. There is not much competition since every other Terminator game besides Future Shock and maybe the Midway arcade version of T2 are not worth playing(see the AVGN reviews for reference).

Old school, straight up shooter

I love it - there is so few A or AA games these days. Focusing on AAA or crazy indie developments, this is just a great throw back to the glory days of FPS's and never tries to be anything more than that. Graphics are not bad, a nice film grain effect masking the absence of detail, the voice acting is Ok, the characters passable, the gameplay, no great suprises - but the atmosphere - Perfect. Sure the AI isn't super, you'll be able to 'game' most of the missions pretty quickly - but it's so much fun doing it. It looks and feels like everything the future snippets from T1 and T2 showed, how the 80s saw the future. There is some great lore finds and nods to the movies - especially if you go looking for them. If you've been craving a no frills shooter with awesome atmosphere - it's a no brainer - and if you're a Terminator fan - it's the best Terminator game made (until someone makes a squad based Terminator Commando/X-Com/Jagged Alliance-esque game at least).

TheTerminator game I never knew I wanted

Just finished this game and it is awesome! It nails the mood and look of the scenes of the future in the first Terminator film, and fleshes out the world with enjoyable characters giving you a variety of interactions with them and choices to be made along the way. I really enjoyed the feel of the combat, every gun feels really powerful to handle and the explosions are out of this world! The levels are a mix between linear action set-pieces and (slightly) open ended sandbox levels, with inbetween sections where you can explore the communities and soak up the mood of the world a'la the Metro series. The game features some light RPG elements which give a sense of reward and some strategy, however towards the end of the game some of the skills become slightly redundant, this isn't a great problem as I was so wrapped up in the unfolding events, but It is my only slight criticism of the game. There was some standout moments in this game where the feels took over as I engaged in certain events and the swell of the music rose and i just had to turn up the volume and go mental. The music is excellent a mixture of moody atmospheric pieces and some pumped up anthems. The classic Terminator theme is reworked in pleasing ways but the highlight is at a certain boss fight where suddenly this Fear Factory-esque (very fitting!) groove metal starts ripping through the speakers and I lost my sh*t. Overall it's somewhere between Metro, Rage and Fallout in terms of gameplay structure and feel. I think that fans of the movies & FPS fans in general will get something out of this game. Some may not find the graphics up to current gen standards, but I think that the game looks good for the most part and ran very smoothly. Those looking for deeper RPG elements may want to look elsewhere but in conclusion I really enjoyed this game and couldn't put it down. Final score : 9/10 or 4/5

A pleasant surprise

This game is not too ambitious; it does not ask you to pour into it a year of your lifetime, like the Witcher series for example. But it tells a complete story, and manages to create quite a solid experience while doing it. The gameplay is enjoyable, so I expect to return to this game in the future. The devs got the story/gameplay balance right in the way that allows one to enjoy replays despite having finished the story. The exploration-and-hunting periods are interspersed with the scripted action scenes, where you have to keep up with your Resistance brothers-in-arms, which creates nice variety in the pacing. One design choice I found jarring was the limitedness of the enemies AI. They are the machines, their main strength has to be in that they are networked! Let one notice you, and everything in the vicinity should start crawling toward you. Instead, you only get noticed by those that can observe you or your action with their own sensors. Another blemish was with the story integration: story-wise, you only get the most powerful weapon class for the last mission. But game-wise, it becomes usable much earlier, so for the role-playing reasons I had to lug the damn gun in my backpack for like 1/4 of the game without firing a shot with it. But that's just a silly old me and my quirks, you don't have to do that :) . I am not really a fan of the Terminator universe; watched the two original movies what... about 30 years ago now! and that's it. So I didn't come into this game with any special expectations. However I liked the whole experience and the ambience of the game, so I re-watched the movies and was suprised by how close the game reproduces the environment of the war shown in the movies: the machines, even the little details like the look of the sniper rifle scope screen and a fire burning inside a gutted TV in a refugee camp. I'm sure Terminator fans will like that.

Amesome for fans, meh for civilians

I`m a fan of T1 and 2 and I think it`s the best Terminator thing that happened since T2- "fan game" made by fans for fans:) Feels bit "low-budgety" but I can forgive that. Perfect amount of cheese, lasers, hot chicks faking tough guys and absolutely fantastic music. I only hope creators will make "Escape From New York The f-ing Game" as a next project.
