*Latha Sesame, a jobless agoraphobe addicted to the Trance, has become targeted for assassination. Without knowing who to trust, she must face the dangers of “meatspace” and survive a fate that has invisibly ruled her entire life.
*Max Lao, a tech-savvy case officer who joined CEL to forget her criminal past. Now she finds herself torn between two loyalties. When she’s asked to apprehend her best friend and partner, she must choose to follow her friend or the law.
As these three struggle to save themselves, they will soon discover a string of conspiracies that threatens not only their lives, but everything they think they know.

Pretty much a masterpiece

A couple of iffy puzzles along the way, but what a fantastic experience overall! The writing is wonderful, playing with tropes of the cyberpunk genre in new and interesting ways, the characters are engaging and well voiced and the world manages to walk the line between hopeless dystopia and human hope and redemption, while playing around with a surprisingly good understanding of psychological and philosophical conundrums. The art is charming as well. Indisputably a labor of love from the creators, and it earns the love of its players too.

A great game

I've found myself playing with my partner to adventure games. It's a great game to enjoy if you already liked adventure games. Good stuff: - This one was very long compared to other games. I didn't like it that long, but It's a good thing anyway. - Voices are superb. If this game didn't have those talented voice actors it would have been completely different. Money was put into that for sure. - Story and atmosphere is great. - Awesome animations and graphics. Bad stuff: - Too long for some people. - Some stuff was pretty difficult to find (nearly pixel hunting). - Some puzzles were extremely difficult to get working, even with two people playing. - Some user interface confusions (like clicking left or right buttons in the same object returning different results. That's a bad design decision in my opinion. We need a little tutorial or visual guide before having to use that.

Delight for Adventure and Cyberpunk fans

Played through and enjoyed a lot. Puzzles: I had to ask the internet for help only at the very beginning because the game doesn't really explain how trance and wetware works. After that it was pretty much smooth sailing except for two or three occasions. Story: Really good work on the story and characters imo. Convincing hard sci-fi and Cyberpunk themes without being excessively dark or violent. There are a few moments that overly sensitive people might call "woke", but really I found this to be both quite fitting for the setting and very well implemented - exactly the way it should be. Art, Music and Sound: Well done imo but I have to admit I do not focus on this too much. Basically "it's good if it doesn't get in the way". I did enjoy the pixel art though in some places I guess they could have done a tiny little bit better - but mind you, that's only in comparison to the all time greats of the genre. Tech: This is what cost it the 5th star in my rating. There were no game breaking bugs and only one graphical glitch I noticed. Music mixing acted up on two or three occasions (music being very loud all of a sudden). Mouse acceleration is terrible until you google and fix it. The engine is dated and while it's using pixel graphics it seems the sprites are just being scaled often which gives it a really odd look - like when your character walks away from the screen and just gets smaller instead of more pixelated. So your character is basically shown in a different resolution than the backdrop. This is nitpicking of course but it's where the title can't hide the indie roots and falls short when compared to AAA games. Upshot: You like Adventures, Sci-Fi and Cyberpunk? Absolute must play!!! You like only one of these? Still worth a shot. You like none of these? Why are you reading this?

One of Wadjet Eye's best!

Definitely one of their better games. I think I've played all of them besides from the Blackwell series and Resonance and would give this the third or second place, with Gemini Rue as the #1. The game is varied gameplay wise and has an interesting world with lots of well designed locations and environments. The world and the story are imaginative, original and creative without going over the top. Things stays reasonable, coherent and relevant, while at the same time fresh and new even though I've read, watched and played a decent amount of sci-fi. Puzzles are in general well designed without any of the give random item to random character puzzles often encountered in point and click games. Usually they are kind of connected to the world and plot, not making them feel out of place but rather part of the storytelling and world building. Characters great as well. Nothing too bad to say about it. One of the main characters is a wee bit annoying a times. Close to giving it a 5/5 but something is missing. Not sure what. I'd pick it up discounted or not.

micro-review

The dystopian world envisioned in this game contains things that I'm sure will happen in real life in the future, which is both scary and... no, it's just scary. The point-and-click part is pretty OK, meaning the objects are rarely hard to find. The game is pretty light in moon logic ("twisted logic that seems tailor-made to frustrates you" - urbandictionary.com) and I only got stuck really badly a few times. Even if it looks dated, this is a modern game with good artwork, story, and some interesting characters. Rating: I for one welcome our new AI overlord! *Editors' Pick* x1 http://pixelloot.com
