Great game in its time, slightly bugged.
Great game for its time, some game bugs still exist (when too many people crowd a train and some get "stuck on the tracks")... One DOSBox bug still exists: CTRL-D does NOT work... SCODE.com (Google for it) shows CTRL-D is being picked up with the same settings, but the software never does. My recommended settings: 2xsai, DO NOT keep aspect ratio, fullscreen mode, overlay...

A masterpiece but
For me too many bug. Audio doesn't works and in a mission two crashes. I used to play this game on my amiga 500. It's still fascinating but on w10 doesn't works really good

Fun for a while but very shallow
This game has got very little depth to it. Some missions will require a little bit of thought but, most just require you to wait for the enemy agents to charge you while you mow them all down. There really is no tactical element to this game even if the mission briefings would have you believe otherwise. I do love the look and atmosphere of the game. The cities really do have a dystopian future feel and, especially considering when this was released, feel very alive with all the police and civilians moving around. You can have some fun with this and on a technical level it works exactly how it should but it gets repetitive very quickly. worth buying on sale if only to experience what is considered a historically significant game. The American Revolt expansion is absolutely ridiculous. Whoever made it seems to have spent about 10 minutes just making it ridiculously hard and nothing much else. Most of the missions (Possibly all) are played on the same maps as the original American missions, just with different scenarios. The enemy agents have had their speed and accuracy upped to ridiculous levels and everyone, including police and guards, has top of the range weaponry including lasers and gauss guns. I kind of enjoyed it just for the ridiculous challenge and it's also quite funny to see rockets firing off from everywhere across the map while squads of agents run around on fire and screaming. To give you an idea of the difficulty, one of the first available missions (Alaska) is failed in around 20 seconds if you don't act. Not for most people, but if you like a challenge, this is it.

Obsolete First Entry in Franchise
In Syndicate, you control a team of operatives in a near future society assigned to complete a variety of missions. From the looks of it, Syndicate was ahead of its time in terms of ambition but somewhat constrained by the technology of the time. In my view, the game belongs more in a museum than on my hard drive, and I cannot recommend playing it in 2024 and beyond. Gameplay: Prior to missions, you assemble and equip your team from a roster of operatives. This is not unlike something we would later see in the first Ghost Recon game. The missions take place in real-time. Given the clunky interface, I might have been more inclined to play Syndicate, if the missions were turn-based, such as X-COM. Characters/Customization: The operatives have a name, some skills, and equipment, and that's about it. Story/Atmosphere: Probably the best part about my experience with Syndicate Plus was the opening cutscene which in spite of technical limitations managed to establish the mood and atmosphere using pixelated graphics. Graphics/Sound: Technically, graphics, sound, gameplay, etc. this version of Syndicate released in 1996 seems pretty rough and badly outdated. If the game were remastered (or better yet, remade) and modernized, I would take a second look... and I believe there are newer versions of the franchise out there, even in my backlog. Replay Value: I played less than 30 minutes, frustrated by the interface and unwilling to go out of my way to learn the proper mechanics for leading my squad on missions. Overall Score: 4/10. I will give some brownie points to Syndicate for how it inspired many games that came after it. Attempted to play in 2023-2024.
