Description
A research spaceship reaches an abandoned planet. Nothing is what it seems here and the situation quickly slips out of control. Can the crew manage to survive and get back home?

SYMMETRY is a survival management game set in a retro- futuristic, sci-fi universe. Your main goal is to manage the crash survivors and help them withstand the desolate, extremely cold environment in order to fix their spacecraft and escape. The non- obvious plot is accompanied by an atmospheric musical score and graphic design that sustains the harsh and mysterious ambience.

Survivors’ life functions crucial to their existence, such as eating, resting and mental health need to be taken care of. Extreme circumstances may force crew members to develop new skills like botanics or power plant operations, that weren't necessary in their Earthly life. Gathering all the parts required to repair the spaceship becomes a race against time, as extreme weather conditions and life-threatening supernatural activities become more and more present.

Vector graphics give the game a feeling of mystery and severity of the deserted world. Using dimmed and pastel colors throughout the scenery creates a sense of remoteness from reality and builds an unreal atmosphere of the landscape.
  • Base micro-management in extremely hostile conditions
  • Randomly assigned crew members with different skills and stories in each gameplay
  • Different needs to satisfy: nutrition, physical condition and mental health
  • Non-obvious sci-fi plot
  • Ominous presence of the Symmetrical World
  • Moral choices – collectivism vs individualism
  • Unique vector graphics and ambient sound setting
  • High replay-ability and various strategies to beat the game
  • Survival game mode unlocked once the main mission is accomplished

Calling it a bad demo is a compliment

You must set your crew to work in order to survive a crash-landing -only it's unclear why they keep dying starting almost inmediately, and if you don't follow the in-game tutorial to the letter the tutorial will stop, so you won't learn what you're supposed to do. Bad interface -you have a panoramic view of the crash site. You can use the mouse for everything EXCEPT panning, for that you have to use the arrow keys. The game is playable but it's unnecessarily awkward. Critical info is flushed against the screen edge -if you are playing on a TV you will miss information. If you are not playing on a TV odds are the tiny fonts will be very hard to read. You start already losing - with no food, no anything, meaning that unless you start to work right away on the right things you'll die in minutes. The game will tell you if your crew members feel "bad" -whether it's because of hunger, exhaustion or any other reason it's up to you to find out. Did you know the proper way of heating an air-tight, electrically-lighted ship with electrically-powered plant-growing pods and food-preserving refrigerators is a lumber stove? And the proper way of getting that lumber is by manually chopping it with a toy-sized axe? These guys just deserve to die. The difficulty levels are "Be Brave" and "Try Harder" -what that's supposed to mean is anyone's guess. "Try Harder" seems to be easier, if for some reason you still play this. The only reason I didn't ask for a refund is because I got it for free, and even then I feel disappointed. And I feel bad for that because I got this game for free and would really like to say something nice about it but I just can't. Sorry. I kinda liked the art style, but the icons were a bit too cryptic and could have used labels. This feels like a really bad clone of a different game (space lumberjack!) with no one playing it before release. If you are really desperate to play something get a free demo of any other game -you'll like it more.

Interesting but flawed

This game certainly achieve what it wanted. Its tense but slow , making one mistake can be fatal. Finishing the main game on the normal ( Be Brave ) wont be too hard after 2 or 3 tries, but the survival mode can put you in fail states pretty easily right at the start since it randomize the crew you start with. The mechanics are simple, but seem wonky one purpose so its not too easy controlling all your crew and fixing/repair your ship. You can zoom in and out, but some tasks cant be done with one view or the other. There is no action at all as far as I can tell. You only try to scavenge ressource while keeping your crew healthy and fed. I really liked the overall presentation with the sound, music and beautiful visual. The survival map is a lot creepier. The story and crew dialogue is a bit too minimal for my taste and it seem in the end you didnt really learn anything at all. Maybe there is more story if you do certain specific stuff in the main story mode or survival , but after 3 hours I think im done with the game for now. I guess the replayability will come out of if you like the gameplay loop enough to redo runs after run and try to *complete* the survival. Would kinda recommend for the unique experience, but it sure isnt for everyone. I got it on sale, dont regret playing it. I would like a game like this with more depth. Maybe a sequel ? ;)

This game just stole an hour of my life

What a waste of time. Such a slow, clunky and uninteresting gameplay. Please whoever did this and thought it was a good idea, it's not. God. Atrocious.

Confused

Ok I get that this is a crew survival game, however the juggle gets old very fast. There's a plot here.. somewhere but it's fractured and weak. Babysitting the crew and queuing them up inside to use a machine so they don't freeze to death when it's -80 for days on end doesn't make for riveting gameplay. The crew management SHOULD have a HUD on the screen with all the crew so they're easy to manage or find, rather than having to zoom in and out to find the crew member drop dead because you didn't have them watched constantly. Upgrading bins and machines seems to do.. something but it doesn't take away from being an unpaid babysitter. All in all, I feel that this game could have been SO much more rather than the confusing but pretty crew sim.

Challenging but not fun

I'll keep this review short and to the point. This is a survival game where you re given three characters to start. Gradually two other crew members will join you to help out. There are four skills: gathering wood to burn in the stove so you don't freeze to death, growing food, repairing/managing the power station to power your equipment, and gathering electrowaste (basically scavenging parts to repair your equipment). The characters have varying levels of skill in each area, but any one of them can be trained in each of the skills. I personally found that maxing out at least one in wood gathering, then one in growing food, and then the rest in scavenging electrowaste is the best order to do things in. I was able to beat the game on my third attempt after learning the game mechanics. Once I got the hang of things, it probably took about 2 hours to finish the game. although there is a survival mode, I don't know if I really want to try it, though. The game was grueling, and I was just glad to get it over with. The game is basically an exercise in micromanaging every activity of your crew members. Rule number one is to heal your crew members after every visit outside to gather resources. This is very tedious. The characters have a deathwish and, like proverbial lemmings, will die without constant supervision. The constant scrolling back and forth to watch your crew members gets old fast. The game is an exercise in tedium. A single mistake can make the game unwinnable. There is really no sense of accomplishment even after winning. I can't say I enjoyed the gameplay at all.
