A research spaceship reaches an abandoned planet. Nothing is what it seems here and the situation quickly slips out of control. Can the crew manage to survive and get back home?
SYMMETRY is a survival management game set in a retro- futuristic, sci-fi universe. Your main goal is to manage the crash survivors and help them withstand the desolate, extremely cold environment in order to fix their spacecraft and escape. The non- obvious plot is accompanied by an atmospheric musical score and graphic design that sustains the harsh and mysterious ambience.
Survivors’ life functions crucial to their existence, such as eating, resting and mental health need to be taken care of. Extreme circumstances may force crew members to develop new skills like botanics or power plant operations, that weren't necessary in their Earthly life. Gathering all the parts required to repair the spaceship becomes a race against time, as extreme weather conditions and life-threatening supernatural activities become more and more present.
Vector graphics give the game a feeling of mystery and severity of the deserted world. Using dimmed and pastel colors throughout the scenery creates a sense of remoteness from reality and builds an unreal atmosphere of the landscape.

Looking for a niche Survival in a Space setting? This is the game for you!
The simple resource management mechanics will have you trying to look at both sides of the screen at the same time while desperately trying to keep everyone alive.
It's easier said then done but the achievement of finishing it is incredible.
The story is ambitious but the ending is only ok-ish. Few hours of fun, give it a spin.
Well, as player who prefers post apo and similar games was an enoying subject of the game.
And this is only one pro.
The first main problem was raping my space button.
I do not mean doing this for planing the next steps in game - thats strategy. But to know the whole plot this is the first time when I needed to do that (if get quite lucky cus sometimes two seconds after text disappear, lol). So by the way you know a second thing - you will not know everything about world.
And last but not least... time.
About 3 hours takes to make campaign on "normal" difficulty. Not so long, innit? Ok - the industry needs games like that.
But not for £9 at a standard price.
Game devs: please do something with presenting the plot and drop the price by half.
Or do more content.
So you have to gather materials to repair your ship and for basic survival purposes. You do the things and you win.
There's supposed to be some drama in the (mostly) inner monologues the characters are having. One is, I think, at some point hearing voices but it's entirely lost because it's all done in the same speech bubble. And while we're on speech bubbles: occasionally the text will be longer than fits in the bubble. Developers didn't care. I got the same excitement as when I read scenarios in math problems.
Let me break down the selling points in the description:
- Base micro-management in extremely hostile conditions
+ Do the things, you win. Occupational therapy.
- Randomly assigned crew members with different skills and stories in each gameplay
+ You can train anyone another skill
- Different needs to satisfy: nutrition, physical condition and mental health
+ Mental health? Didn't notice that at all. Eat and heal, done.
- Non-obvious sci-fi plot
+ Read: pretentious
- Ominous presence of the Symmetrical World
+ No idea
- Moral choices – collectivism vs individualism
+ Also no clue
- Unique vector graphics and ambient sound setting
+ Hah, play Another World. Same graphics, same setting even, awesome game. Hardly any music but that's also lacking here.
- High replay-ability and various strategies to beat the game
+ No
- Survival game mode unlocked once the main mission is accomplished
+ Couldn't be arsed to check it out
So you do the things, the heaters and fridge take turns breaking down which is just tedious, nothing else. You get some bla bla at the end when you've collected enough crap and it's over. Don't waste your time. You can have more fun with Another World as I mentioned. Of course, that's an action game, but it requires the same amount of "strategy".
The game has a nice atmosphere of mystery and you can really feel the impending doom that awaits you if you don't speed up repairing the ship. You are reminded of this fact be receiving more and more unnerving calls from other survivors. The game also reminds you of this with gradually more intense soundtrack.
At the beginning you have three crew members at your disposition, usually each of them excels at one of four possible tasks and is pretty mediocre in others. You can train them to do other tasks as well, so you can specialize crewmembers in other activities. Unfortunately, what you can't train them is self-preservation behavior. The scientists will go collect that wood, on empty stomach, empty health bar and it's up to you to stop them from certain death. It wouldn't be that bad, if there was an easier way to manage those people. Some sort of a chart or an console where you could quickly glance and see what is their status. In games like Kenshi or Rimworld, where you also manage a group of people, you can click at one's portrait and find out what's wrong and quickly react to it. Here, you have to skim from left to right and check everyone individually how far from death they are.
The story is told through monologues. Characters do not interact with each other, unless it's waiting in line to a stasis pod or fridge. One person can complain about the pilot, and the said pilot won't answer back or react in any way. However, the writing in those monologues is pretty solid. It’s not too long to bore you, and informative enough to tell you what are the motivations and type of a person that speaks them. There's stark difference between resignation at the beginning, and panic at the end.
It's a nice game for an hour or two. It has nice graphics, which are sufficient for this kind of production. What it lacks thou are gameplay mechanics that could diversify your playthrough because so far, its mostly gathering junk and hoping that RNG won't mess up the shelter too bad
Once you figure out what to do gmae provides very limited re-playability, there is some ramdomity with weather conditions, but it really doesn't add up challenge, just adds more micro management.
